***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I wonder what the bluish chick is in this pic. It is clean legged. All the others in this pic have feathered feet

 4 posts Mitzi...LOL!! check out this group- Jojo was being too much for ebony- but this is a perfect match
I have no idea why it spit out 4 posts lmao! A D'Uccle is a great match for a Serama, bigger and will put him in his place (hopefully). Teenaged cockerel hormones drive me nuts. Boys are so much easier on the girls after their 2nd year. Channing finally bred his little hen. He looked more surprised than her lol

@mjgigax I'm so sorry your babies were taken away! Every day when I'm coming home from work my stomach tightens up as I'm coming up the driveway, because I just know I'm going to come home to a terrible loss. I hate that you're going through that now.

:hugs

@jeansrie that is a real work of art.

@everybody ... there are dark brahmas at Atwoods?!?!?! Why did I not know this?????

@mjgigax sorry for your loss

No need to cauterize if done right there is little bleeding.

I don't caponize mine for pets (though that is a perfectly good reason to) I caponize mine for meat.

Oh no I think I have the wrong heat light it is clear not red but the box said infra red heat light. Will it work?

Red is not always used by everyone. Some say red helps keep them calmer and not so agitated and pecking at each other, or isn't so harsh on the sleep cycle, but people brooded w/ white for years and years.

MJ...sorry to hear about you friendly EE girls. Hope the chicks you hatch are as sweet.

All the brooder room chicks are spending tonight in the juvenile coop..all 21 of them. I put my best motherly hen with them and they were chick peeping as it began to grow dark. She was softly clucking reassurement. These are fully feathered 6 to 10 week old juvies that have spent the days outside but their nights in the brooder room because of the weird cold temps. There are also 6 that are three months old. There is a mix of Bantam and Large fowl...most are young cockerels.

I knew I should've went to the Newcastle auction instead of blanchards lol just curious how do those 2 auctions compare which is better

Ps still lookin for those blue maran hens lol

Blanchard is a junk auction that people occasionally bring chickens. Newcastle is a poultry auction. IMO

I'm so sad for you, MJ. It's crushing to lose favorites but it's an extra blow to have the "if only I'd...." thought weighing on your mind. :hugs

My bet is Dark Brahma. If that's what it is I'm guessing female jsudging by the light colored tios already showing through. Mine are wonderful and I hope that's what you've got!

Score! Dark brahma

So far only three Cochins have hatched this year and they are too young to tell color yet....will let you know when they get a little bigger and feather up.
I'm going to change up the two pens....my Black hens have all gone broody and Big Blue needs some girls to play with instead of watching them sit on a nest. I'm going to give him two of the Blue hens he covered last year and we should get some more lovely Blue and Splash chicks. black Bart has had five girls and they are all laying, but even with trimmed bums, the fertility hasn't been high yet.
