***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Kass, Rudy is sooooooo adorable! Since s/he's going to survive (the power of positive thinking!), will you have to take extra precautions for her? I can't imagine she'll take the summer sun or the winter very well. And if she's a she, she wouldn't be able to be bred naturally, those roo claws would tear her up; would you breed her with AI?

Managed to get the pictures loaded and resized!

Chocolate Muscovies, got our first eggs this weekend there were 11 stashed in the coop!

Our new goats, 3 does and 1 buck, all Alpines from very good milk lines.

This picture was saying goodbye to our nearly11yo Aussie mix Izzie, she was in a lot of pain and not eating anymore due to cancer in her jaw. We will miss her.

Oh Rinda, I'm so sorry about your sweet puppy. That would be such a difficult thing to do. Normally I wouldn't opt for putting an animal down, but starvation would be a horrible way to go. My deepest condolences, for the loss of a dear friend and for the pain of making such a difficult decision.

I'm writing several things. I'm working on two novels seriously for publication and then I'm working on both a collection of short stories and a collection of poetry. I've entered about fourteen competitions since the beginning of the year and have another twelve on the books through the end of May. Occasionally I pull out an older trilogy I wrote and work on revising it. One of the novels is horror/fantasy about a clan of miniature vampires and the other is a historical/mainstream about segregation issues in the 1930's in North Carolina.

In other news, our goat, that we thought was in labor today, still has not had her baby(s). We spent all day with her and she's seemed like she was having a contraction or two but then nothing else. We figure now that it's 40 something degrees outside she'll have them. Nothing quite like sitting in a cold barn bundled up all night waiting on a baby to be born.

If she is a she the only roo she will ever be with will be a fellow scaleless, since they don't have spurs. I think I will get the cat claw covers and super glue them onto the toe nails of at least the roo. I have plenty of shade areas and my coop is off the ground so I do not think summer is going to be a problem. I have the old small metal coop that has only top ventilation and is insulated, I think that will become their coop and I will make a fenced separate run area for them. If I breed her to a none scaleless it will be through ai. Until I get more, if I get more I will take the most laid back of the girls maybe 2 or 3 and put with Rudy no matter which gender s/he is.

Yes, their day-to-day companionship is such a gift.

Is 11 piglets a big litter? How many "faucets" does a sow have?
no it is not big a good litter is about 12 and she actually had 12 but one was stillborn, each sow is a little different but this particular one has 14 teats. Our other sow had 17 pigs last time that was a big litter she didn't have enough teats for everyone, but not all made it because there were 2 runts and she laid down on one. We are down to 10 now one was a runt i tried to bottle feed her but when there really little like she was most of the times it means they didn't develop right but i like to give them a chance any way.
