So sorry for your loss
@hotcurltr -- I am sorry your chick is going through that! I have one doing something similar and so far I am being told to use ACV, electrolytes, vitamins (will get those tomorrow morning), and I am going to up her protein by feeding organic yogurt and dried mealy worms. I was painting in the run today and kept an eye on her for a looooong while and never did see her do it again, so knowing yours is doing it intermittently means she probably was doing it and I just didn't see it. For now, I am leaving her with the flock and will just catch her to administer what she needs. As long as she doesn't get worse like some of the photo's I've seen. Good luck with yours! I hope she recovers.
My new chicks are coming along nicely and so far the Brahma's are the first ones to come to me when I place my hand in their brooder. The Buffs are next, but those poor little PR's are completely terrified. I bought dried mealy worms tonight for the big girls and once they had a taste they went NUTS over them. Got me thinking, could I tame my new babies with mealy worms too?
Hmmmm, not knowing if they are old enough (5 days old) I threw caution to the wind and crushed a few in the palm of my hand and held it down there while softly saying, "chick, chick, chick".
It took about 4 seconds for this gorgeous creme faced Brahma to come running to my hand and snatch a worm and take off, then a Buff, then another Brahma and in about 20 seconds all hell broke loose!! Little bitty chicks running a marathon trying to A) hide with the worm or B) snatch the worm from the one attempting to hide or snatch the worm while it's running!
It was absolutely hilarious!!!!
Now I'm asking myself, just how many mealy worms can little chicks eat for my entertainment .... but instead I closed the bag and put it away
