***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'd like to flame whomever it was that busted the quote function.

And this guy in another thread who's getting all better-than-thou.

Yes there are threads I completely avoid for such reasons.

I know that story last year I had 16 ee's and 26 buff orps free range I now have 8 of the ee's and 3 buffs then a stray Sheppard mix showed up we took her in and now she took on the job of protecting the place and every thing else if anyone comes to the door and were not home they will still be here when we get home.
we haven't lost a bird since she grew up and took on her new job you can't get her in the house when chickens are out.
I should get a big dog to guard the house. we were broken into last year too and while we have a lab mix and a heeler/ Catahoula mix they were in crates. we were brooding some chicks in the bathroom (redneck, I know) I was at work and the wife and kids got home from swimming lessons. the kids biggest concern was that someone took or hurt their chicks. maybe a bigger guardian dog would protect our chickens and house from thieves. great Pyrenees maybee

I love our Pyrenees. He was a big puppy for about 2 years but is a great listener now. I love having him guard the yard and he has never been anything but awesome with my kids and chickens. And what a bark! Nothing comes in our yard!

I'm nervous... have to take out two of my roos this weekend. One of them has become very proficient at crowing and the other one is following in his footsteps. But that's the nature of chickens in the city, I know. They're so young too, one is 12 weeks on Saturday and the other is only 9! I didn't know they would crow so early. Any tips and/or advice on making their trip to freezer camp easier are welcome. I have to do the broomstick method.

Not redneck at all. A lot of us brood chicks in the house.

On the great pyrenees......they tend to cover a lot of territory.....many have hard time getting them to stay on property and they scale fences easily. I've seen a few hit by cars in my area. Of course training and the dog's unique personality will make a difference in having a homebound dog vs a roamer. If I was to get a LGD I would look for antolian shephard or meramena (sp?).
