***OKIES in the BYC III ***

An avid gardener just told me today to blend the bugs w/ soap and horticultural oil and spray the plants.

Back in the 70s there was an article in Organic Gardening magazine ....I'm dating myself....about collecting and blending a particular pest bug in water. Instruction said to let this juice ferment overnight and then strain it and mix with Safer soap to spray on the plants. Fermenting allowed the bacteria/parasite that could kill the bug to multiply and make the spray more potent. I bought a used blender at a yard sale just for making bug juice.

I water at the base of the plant have a few chickens w/ me when the bugs run up the plant to escape the water (very hydrophobic) the chickens eat them.

Weird. My chickens won't touch them for some reason. I taught them to garden with me, and I never could get them to eat those manky !@$@$ s.

The watering from the base does work. You can catch and pinch a lot of them like that. Thank heavens for rubber coated gloves.

Mine never had a problem w/ them gobbled them up like candy. I do not have any of those girls now, they were in the massacre so we'll see if these ladies are as accommodating.

I need some fresh eyes and honest opinions. Working on a wedding gift. It is suppose to be modern in design, and all the colors in their registry were dark jewel (burgundy, purple, brown and grey) What do you think of this color combo?

Looks good - but this is on a computer monitor...so worth a grain of salt.

@shelbydog You are the human grandma to 20 or so muscovy ducklings. The little sneaks, I didn't think they had that many eggs. They decided to share a nest since I kept taking the eggs, and I thought around 10. Boy, was I wrong. Humphrey is a proud papa, but hasn't been allowed in the pen yet. He pace back and forth and then sleeps next to it, if the naughty geese don't bother him. From what I could tell tonight(most were hatched last night, but mamas said no looking) most are going to be like Humphrey or the moms. There is one solid chocolate, and several cholatesw/white; The naughty geese will be locked out of the chicken yard during the day tomorrow, so I let them out and see how Humphrey does. Speaking of geese I have to ganders up for grabs, since I can't seem to kill them myself and Glenn won't. I bought them as a mated pair Christmas of 12, so I've had them a little over a year. They have both turned out to be ganders. At least I think Lucy is a gander. He/she acts like one but I have never seen his wingdanger, but have seen one On Festus, as he's the one that goes after the duck hens since I only have a few female geese. Festus is 4 and is supposed to be a pilgrim mix. Lucy is supposed to be Toulouse and has part of his top beak missing from an accident last year. Glenn hand fed him for two months and he started eating on his own. As long as he can tilt his head he eats grain, hay and grass, weeds etc. Oh Lucy was two in April. and has not laid an egg, besides helping Festus w/ the duck hens. They have to go together because Lucy goes nuts when separated from Festus. I really think if Festus had a mate he could breed he might get ove Lucy. If they are used for freezer camp, I would ask that it was sone humanelyw/o the other one seeing it. I really have a lot of posts to catch up on. I would read a few evey night but had been sick again.Thursday I satyed in the hospital for test since I was running 102.7 temp which for an oldie like me isn't great. My white count was elevated more than slightly, but c sans and other tests couldn't find anything. It now appears to be my leg again. It took me hours to do the chosres last night and tonight the same achiness and chills when I was feeding. Didn't get bedding down for the new ducklings, but they'll have to wait until tom. I see the wound care Dr. on Tuesday, so I'll just wait unless it becomes bad. It had a lot of unnels everywhere(I"D show picks but i don't know how to do the graphic thing so those that don't want to see wouldn't have to Anyway some of the tunnels healed over w/o filling in and are now coming back to haunt me. . Here are a few pictures of Lucy and Festus taken a few months ago. I'll get better ones hopefully tom. Thye are very good watchdogs and do keeep the snakes and raccoons away. I just need to get more females and haven't yet and they are the two I didn't hand raise and are mean to everyone else except people. And they don't bother chicken hens, just roosters for some reason. I haven't seen them bother Humphrey but he is pretty low key. They have grabbed at ducklings before, but were protective of them last year before all the other ganders grew up. Now they are brats.

Jc had to hog the pic. Festus is the one in the background w/ the grey . Sorry it had rained and I was cleaning up hay on the ground to put down fresh hay. Which is what is in the blue barrel in the back

Lucy. The shed in the back I've been wanting to convert to a chicken coop, but Glenn said it's too rotted, but I can take the siding and repaint it and put it on my shabby coopLOL
Anyway if there are no takers I'll try facebook than an auction which I hate, but I have to cut back on ganders and these two are the only ones I didn't raise. But they are good watch dogs and snake detterents.

I go there wayyy to much, but I do try to avoid it. There can be some pretty horrible art on there at times, so I try to avoid that. But I am on a website called Weasyl, and it is, so far, a pretty helpful community. :3
horrible in what way if you mean graphic i have seen some that were but i didn't really search others work very much just looked up some plushie patterns and how to draw a few things so, sorry about that i have only look at a few from ppl i don't know, most of the art work i have look at are from ppl i do and they are decent ppl and don't draw garbage. I have never herd of weasyl

I just read that if you hang a damp towel outside houses that are infested with shield bugs, they'll be all over it in the morning. I think ill try wetting a towel and tenting it around a couple of squash plants to see if it works.
