***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We had lots of rain here today and after dark. Water came in through one of the basement windows and flooded the laundry room. DH and I spent a couple of hours mopping up the water. No damage done, just a wet mess. I'm going to get some bacteriostat to spray the floors with tomorrow.

Shelbydog - The fawn and white runner ducklings are adorable. I can't control more than two of them at a time for pictures. They want to run off the table. I got a few snaps of the calmest pair.

ohhh they are precious!

If you place boards around the squash, the shield bugs are supposed to gather underneath and you can catch them there in the early mornings. I think I'm going to try a couple of different approaches this year... the wet towel, the boards, boards with sticky tape, and my lye soap in water.

I noticed a huge dropoff in the number of the bugs using the lye soap in water.

@erinszoo be sure to destroy all the little egg colonies when you see them. Always check under the leaves of your squash plants. Eggs look like tiny amber colored beads in geometric patterns. You can take your finger and just rub over them to squish them.

Yeah, we do that too as well as picking them off by hand while watering. Last year we tried remay but they just crawled under.

Alright guys. I was just trying to be helpful and forewarn anyone traveling long distance hoping to go to the Blanchard auction and thinking it would be a short auction. I never thought anyone would go and say something to the people working there and tell them I said they didn't have much of anything there. I work with several of the people that work the auction and now my forewarning (plus addition) has caused problems for me at work. So I won't be doing that again. I literally pulled out my phone and let them read what I wrote. Not cool at all. of course they weren't mad after they saw what I really wrote
I know you didn't say anything negative or unfair re the auction. It is what it is. Personally, I love the junk - got the greatest treasure there last weekend!!!!
I guess this is just a fair reminder that this is a public forum and we never know who is reading posts or how they might react. I am glad that they were able to get the REAL story about what you said, and not just be influenced by someone's second hand story of what you said.

That is true I do forget this is public.

Who here can make a quilt, loves me, and will do something like this on commission?

I especially love the last shot.

Whew, I finally just caught up on the posts. Interesting and rewarding conversations. I was too far back to respond to everyone, so I'll just say

to all the newbies. Unfortunately, I'm not a gardener. We've had several throughout my lifetime, but a different family member was doing all the work. I did watering and weed pulling if that counts. My mother used to have the most beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. I'll have to scan some pictures sometime. Unfortunatly, again, I still don't know that I have a talent, but I love my feathered friends and people. I love watching people as much as I do my birds,. I didn't get to do what I planned because of all the rain, but I never complain about rain. Sometimes I wish it would of waited until I finished something, but there would always be someone wishing the same thing any time it rains. Did I make sense?
I woke up feeling good today. No fever? I'm confused, but I'll take it. I pray for everyone on here and others too. I'm happy for your beautiful pictures and babies, and sorry for your losses and illnesses.
Dusti, that is a beautiful quilt. I pray someone will be able to make it for you. I do know people that quilt and are very, very good. There is so much talent on here I'm sure someone will do it for you. Isn't there also a thread or forum on quilting on here?
Hannah, Thinking about your art is a good way to keep going while your leg is healing. I pray you don't have to have surgery, but if that's what it takes. I had surgery on my leg, but it was really debridement(sp). My leg was fractured in two places, broken ribs and numerous hematomas. Enternal bleeding, requiring 13 units of blood total and a nice long hospital stay. I consider myself lucky even though it's almost two years and i'm still battling he wound made by the debridment. You could put a cantalope in it. The Dr. was an excellent surgen and saved my tendons and ligaments, but he said it was a miracle, There was so nuch hematoma. I was on a woulnd vac for 4 months and as I said am still battling this. It happpened on July 12, 2012. It was almost healed until the tunnels that hadn't healed, but looked healed and had just closed on the ends started filling w/ fluid and some w/ infection, so now the wound is bigger again. But I am thankful, I'm here. My leg isn't what makes me sick though. My mare Big Mama stood over me to protect me and never made a move as she was pounded on. She could of gone over the little fence or tried to back out, but I seriously think she was trying to protect me. I can still feel the thuds as the studs feet came up and down, up and down. Sometimes I wonder if Big Mama would of moved if I would of been killed because of a blow hitting my head as she tried to get away or if I wouldn't have as much damage as I did. However, she never even raised a hoof so she wouldn't hurt me. And took a lot of battering. I wouldn't of been corneed like that normally, but I could see what was about to take place and the gate in the shedrow was open w/ my then 4 yr old granddaughter by me. I had time to shove her out and close the gate so she wouldn't be hurt. I went down when I was struck, but couldn't move because my legs did the splits and one went under the fence and got hung up. My fractures healed fine because they weren't on major weight bearing bones. I could never be casted because of the severe ligament and tendon damage, which healed except one and it still give me a what for at times. So that's my story on my leg. and I'm stickin to it. Hubby always teases my daughter and says I should of just thrown my granddaughter in and ran out that she is young enough to make another. He doesn't mean it, but I think it is in very bad taste and don't think it's funny.
So anyway Hannah count your blessings that you're alive and can go on. I know surgery isn't fun as I've had my share. I pray for a speedy recovery for you and a miracle.
Thankful for the good wakeup you had this morning! What your dh said throwing the granddaughter in.... not funny, but made me laugh like crazy

reminds me of the saying about how you don't need to be able to outrun the bear chasing you... just have to out run the slowest person. Sounds like that mare probably saved your life, and no doubt in MY mind that you saved your granddaughters life.

@Poco Pollo the ducklings are adorable. I hope the sexes are correct.

@hotcurltr Did I respond to an earlier post about the scovy hatch? If not, congrats on such a big hatch! So proud of Humphrey. My scovy hen that has a nest under the deck came out with 2 ducklings. I sure more come out today.

I'm so disappointed that I still only have one chick hatched so far. I had 2 but another broody hen pecked it to death.

Hannah, I hope you are getting the medical care you need.

Hope you all love the corgi stuff b/c there is more of it coming! Hopefully artsyrobin will share the portraits she is going to do for me.

@Kassaundra I like the white quilt too. I love the stitched design. I've admired it before. On the applique ones.....if I cut out and assembled the pieces would someone assemble the blocks and put it all together for me?
