***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I met shelbydog (chicken enabler extraordinaire) for breakfast the other day and we ended up in the parking lot of Atwoods who was selling chicks out of the back of her SUV. You could almost imagine the"Psssst", then the opening of a trenchcoat lined with pockets filled with watches and baby chickens. ;)

I picked up these two beautiful bluish silkies and a gorgeous bluish cochin! Dusti, you'll have to remind me what kind of cochin this is. Here they are with one of my favorite roosters!

And just for fun, Caramel loves a good chin scratch!

Does anyone on here raise bantam blue egg layers? Are they americana or araucana? Please forgive auto correct on my phone Easter egger?

Loriemarler. I have some bantam ameracauna/EEs that I've gotten from auctions. They are precious.

Some of mine came from a poultry farm in Arkansas. Let me get that name for you.

Eta: Two One Even Farms. They have brought stock to Okla auctions.

I'm not Kyzmette  but Bumpers is one of her favorite hens, a cinnamon queen or production red if I remember right????

Double yolks can be fertile, not many hatch out viable chicks, it can be done but is pretty rare.

I've been "fertilizing" the garden.  The tomatoes have gotten eggshell / comfrey / lab water, the rest are getting comfrey / lab water, and the comfrey is getting straight chicken poop water, you can't give comfrey to "hot" of a fertilizer, it loves the stuff would probably grow in straight poop.

I almost swear if I stand still and look at the tomatoes, I can see them grow!!!!  I hate getting this excited about the garden b/c it makes the disappointment even worse come summer.

Thanks for the info! I was thinking maybe bumpers was some obscure breed I hadn't heard of :)

Cute! Cute! Cute! Cochins and silkies are my favorites!

Good googly moogly, the as-yet-unidentified pullet laid another egg, poor girl. I'm pretty sure I knowwhich one she is. That's a good sized Marans egg next to it. Jumbo eggs are 2.5 oz or greater, and the weight on this one is 101.2g, or 3.57oz.

I don't know if they'll hatch, since she's still young, but I'm putting them in the bator just in case.

You would try to hatch the jumbo? I get some really huge ones every so often, but I really do not want the drama or potential trauma of twin chicks, so I never hatch them.

Edited: Oh, never mind, I am just now reading the discussion!
