***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Here's a picture of my first and favorite chicken. Other than easter egger, any guesses as to her lineage? She's a buff blue colombian color and has white/pink earlobes. She's rather small and her "pullet eggs" are about the size of corturnix and jumbo quail eggs.

As far as the predator-that's what I thought it was from the start from the description. It's hard losing them but when you've double-secured their coop and something like that gets in anyway, it's even more of a blow. I'm sorry.

Subhanala, it's hard to tell what else she's got in her. I love making my own Easter Eggers. The ones I've got so far are Ameraucana/Cochins. Wide fat bodied feather-legged & pea-combed. All my favorite things.

I just picked up the most beautiful 1/2 grown Light Brahma pullets from YardBirdMom :)) Healthy long-legged babies, they're going to be huge. I love them, Bev, and I very much appreciate it. These are some of the healthiest chicks I've ever gotten.

well, as of now, only one surviving keet with the mama- i wonder if those that were so weak were from pullet eggs? weak to begin with and then the rains.... sigh

this guy is in need of a home...

I almost said yes but know SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) would make me go sleep with them if I got anymore right now.

Sigh. Rub it in a little more, why don'tcha. Grumblemumblegrump.
:gig You two and your pullet snatching fights are hilarious! The silkie is beautiful by the way, she's getting orange gold tips on her neck feathers. I have no idea what color she's going to end up. Maybe a tri splash or porcelain (big maybe on that one) have any chick pics of her you could send me? I live for this kind of feathering-out-mystery stuff.

I don't think I posted the pics of the progress on my latest fusion blanket. If I did sorry for the repost blame it on my "sometimers" It is 3 of the 7 rows, enough though that you can see the pattern of the layout. I am calling it "Mom's Garden Under the Stars" the crocheted side will have 3 special mom blocks (one for each of my "moms" who have passed, mother, MIL, and gma) and the quilted side is stars. (my mother's block is a red butterfly, red is the color for stroke awareness, gma's block is a purple broken heart, for alzhiemers awareness, and MIL's block is a burgundy ribbon for multiple myloma color). The stars and the flowers are from byc swaps I participated in.

Those are absolutely gorgeous! My grandmother use to quilt, but we lived so far away I never learned how. I appreciate the time, effort, and talent it takes :)

Well, the kids are about 6 weeks old now and have been outside for the last 2 weeks now. Growing like weeds is an understatement and as all have said, so entertaining. Here is a few pics of the coop and run. 3 guinies, 6 RIR, 6 Black Marans, 2 EE, one silver Marans and 3 golden ginger red bantams (one roo). The coop is 4' wide and 4'deep. 2.5' off the ground with a height of 8' on front. Nesting boxes will be on back when needed and new access door added on side. Ventilation on both sides. Original run 4 x 12. Added the tent/wire to add additional 16' square. This will come down when they grow a bit and become more docile and controllable/predictable. I'm thinking with these numbers, another coop may be in order.

Awe, they are SO cute and I LOVE the extra covered run they have! What type of material are you using for the sides?

Will go back and catch up after I get my corn in the freezer

If you want great corn for your freezer!
Nowakowski Farms McLoud has their sweet corn ready. She said they would have corn ready thru this weekend. There are huge trailers bringing it in from the field and workers are processing it now. $20 a bushel ($10 per grocery bag 1/2 bushel). They are really organized and you can get in and out rather quickly. The grower in Harrah was unable to get his crop in due to the weather so McLoud will be the location for fresh sweet corn.
177 Hwy and Hazeldell Road. has the big sign and you go west three miles to the farm. A sign is on the south side of the road....pull in and don't block the front of the barn..

Oh that is awesome to know! I use to buy alfalfa and corn from him. He raised the BEST 1st first cutting alfalfa around and I could always count on his hay not having blister beetles in it! His corn is some of the best!

IF someone could manage to split a bushel with me and pick it up/pay for it, I will happily come get it from them tomorrow or Sunday :) Any takers??

Awe, thanks! I am beyond delighted that you approve. You are far more experienced than I am and I always second guess what I'm doing. They should mature to about 9.5 to 10# girls! We put the four in the carrier and went to pick it up and I was SHOCKED 4 birds could be so heavy lol Keep me posted on their progress and update with pic's from time to time!

Well, I still have some Partridge Rock girls and one roo I'm willing to part with

I was hoping someone that wanted to breed the breed would want them, to free me up more space.

Tomorrow I'm picking up a Light Brahma rooster!! Yay! Now I can make pure babies!!

I would take that pyncheon in a heartbeat IF it weren't for the fact that when I turned the Buff Rock babies into the run today I noticed that TWO looks suspiciously like cockerels *gasps* Really????

Why haven't I noticed before now? Well, removing just 4 birds made them able to spread out more and have less hidey holes and they stuck out like a sore thumb. I'll post pic's later tonight.

BUT if that weren't enough, now I am thinking my Cuckoo Marans IS a roo!! *groans* Man! I wanted it to be a pullet SO bad!! That will bring my roo total to: 6!!!
