"Evil" - that is what Muesky and I tell each other when we see them at auctions. They are so hard to resist.

Ooh, I hope they hatch for you.  I've heard several bad reports from Gabbard Farms hatching eggs- sending old and even rotten eggs.  :(  Candle as soon as they come so you don't incubate a stinker!

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure to check them and give updates. I hope I have some luck...on hatch rate and variety. I paid very little for them, but I never want to just throw money away!

I must be sick! I just bought some hatching eggs...a 24 count variety pack of at least 8 breeds from Gabbard Farms. I've never used eBay, but I thought with this unseasonably cool weather it would be a good time to try. Plus I got them pretty cheap, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I don't need any more chicks!
What breeds are you supposed to be getting....I have heard some stories about their Ebay eggs....hope you have good results.

Okay, yesterday I sorted plums and pulled stems and chucked the ones with blemishes to the chickens. And then I canned 19 pints of hot salsa using up 24 pounds of ripe tomatoes ( Roma, Rutgers and Heintz as well as firm ripe slicers. This salsa is like Taco Bueno's salsa.
The chickens got all the tomato trimmings and skins along with the pepper trimmings. Two treats in one day...they like to see me coming with a bucket.

And now while the plums are poaching, I'm going thru my pickle recipes. Think I'll make some Bread and Butter pickles and some Kosher dill spears. Ill run the plums thru a ricer and water bath the jars of juice. and wash jars for the pickles.

For lunch today the boys are getting Fire Department smoked ribs and fried potatoes along with squash and sliced tomatoes. They are hauling in hay today too.

Yes I believe so, all those pics were shamelessly stolen from the internet.

I know how you feel about the rabbits. Kass needs a whoopin' for the can of worms she's opened here :/ I researched rabbits and it seems Holland Lops are only 2-3 lbs vs Mini Lops that are 6 lbs. OMG they're adorable! Then my husband informs me he's always wanted rabbits but didn't say anything because I'm the one who'd have their day to day care. I'll be sure to whoop him when I'm done with Kass.
I've been using these storage cubes to make 2 1/2' x 2 1/2' Serama cages for awhile now and they work awesome. I just ordered more to make Channing (my favorite Serama boy) a 5' x 5' cage since he's got 2 little hens now. I decorate them with fake ivy and plants. I need to find some small fake trees. The floors I make are that plastic egg crate stuff so poop and food falls right through to the tray underneath, the birds stay clean all the time and there's that nice smelling scooping cat litter in the bottom of the trays so it honestly smells very good. ANYWAY....my point......these storage cubes & corrugated plastic sheeting (Home Depot online has both) is used for indoor rabbit and guinea pig cages. @ashtree if your son got a couple mini rabbits one of these cages would work just perfect in his room. And the bunnies can have a litter box in his enclosure also. I'll post an example, you can see tons more ideas at

I remember you were talking about getting him a rabbit and I just know he'd be so excited to be able to keep it/them in his room.

Nanakat, you mentioned a ricer... I love making homemade hummus... let me correct that... I love the taste of my homemade hummus, but I HATE making it! Since I have diverticulitis I try to remove the hulls, and that takes FOREVER! Would a ricer make it easier? I was thinking of picking up one of those conical colanders my grandmother used to have, a chinois. I know it would make canning easier, and I was thinking it might work pretty well for chickpeas too.
