***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@ashtree My dog, Jewels, is a shepherd/pit mix that does everything you mentioned and more. When I go to bed at night and she's inside, she sleeps in the doorway. When she sleeps outside, she's draped across the porch steps. When I wander off in the brush to pick berries, she's two steps ahead of me if she knows the path, and going in circles around me if she doesn't. When she was younger I taught her to stay on the property and now she refuses to leave it.

And best of all... when my oldest grandbaby was just a few weeks old, I took her outside to soak up some fresh air while I gardened. I set her in her chair and Jewels laid down next to her. Shortly after, my mom's dog, a large husky named Blue, came over to check out the newcomer. I knew he wouldn't hurt the baby, but I was right there on pins and needles during the introduction. Only the introduction didn't happen, because as Blue approached the baby chair, Jewels got up and walked about six feet out to greet him, nose to nose. He started to walk around her, and she repositioned herself, still nose to nose, still between him and the baby chair. Every step he took, she was right there, walking in circles around that baby chair with him. Eventually he gave up and ambled away, but Jewels never did let him anywhere near that baby.
What a great dog! I miss my Louie so badly. My gardens a beautiful this year but I don't enjoy them because he was always with me when I worked in the yard and took my morning coffee walks.

I made pigeon nests today, my husband is on his way home with a bunch of coconut liners to put inside them. It was sooooo nice out. I've got 6 Pigeon pairs in a 10x10 pen, I'm just fascinated with these pigeons. These ones are all nice and calm, and their coos are the prettiest sound. One of the hens is a French Mondain.....that's what her band says anyway and she's bigger and way rounder than the Modenas. If there's any pigeon people reading this that knows where I might find more French Mondains, please PM me. The Pigeons will also be getting a 10x15 run covered with netting for excersize during the day. Right now @ashtree 's visiting ducks are occupying that yard at the moment :) (And they are certainly welcome to stay as long as they need to).

Are coconut liners good for chicken's nest boxes? I am on the fence about what to put in nest boxes.

Guess I'll go ahead and add us to the Available Roosters group. Haha. We have two EE roosters that are messing up our flock at the moment. I'd like to get 5-6$ each or trade for one hen if anyone is interested. They're very tame. Love to eat out of your hand. Unsure of age.

I'd feel the same way if something happened to Gracie or Red.

Gracie is an Australian Shepherd. She is the herder of the two. More a dedicated to one person type dog, she does well with children and chickens. She is my side-kick, but loves her "rides". At 10 years old, she is losing her hearing.

Red loves chickens...especially babies. Catahoula and Lab cross. He is the in your pocket, right at your side dog. Loves children.

Really?? I have 11 of them, what color do you want? lol There's a couple Blues that are just gorgeous, and a Black who's beautiful along with a nice looking solid White one. Those eggs came from a lady who shows them, not from the hatchery. Name your color lol
Black silkie roo!? Mitzi! I could use him...right now I have a blue with my paint girls, and would like to get back to a black. Or, if nothing else, he will fill out my black trio for 4-h show purposes.
He's yours! He's very good looking also. Nothing like my hatchery boys (who I love anyway).

@Ksane Bardies gets the black one. I'd like whichever one has the friendliest personality towards people. He will become a pet for my granddaughters, so he will get lots and lots of love and attention.
Cool! I have the most beautiful Frizzle Silkie. Black with tons of gold lacing on his neck and tan and gray mixed in his coat. I'll get a picture today.

:hugs I feel so sad for you. I know exactly how you feel and I know there's nothing anyone can say to make it better :-(

Honestly I don't know. I need to go look that up. My Ringneck Dove has one in her cage and she loves it.

I love all the stories and pictures of dogs everyone is sharing. Super sweet stuff. I feel guilty for getting another dog, like my GP will be hurt. I would love to just let him freely roam and trust him to stay and I feel like he mostly would. But it will only take 1 time for him to take off and disappear or get hit by a car again. So he's going to be fenced. I think he will be happy to have ducks and goats and room to run. He's a darn good dog that just needs to be fenced.

@BetsyOK thank you for the info. I'm going to do covered runs. I just keep thinking about it and its really not worth the risk. I've never made or designed them before tho so Im looking up designs now.

Also I know everyone loves hardware cloth over chicken wire but I have TONS of chicken wire. Would chicken wire doubled be as effective as hardware cloth or should I just give up on using this chicken wire?

@Poco Pollo and @Bardies
The Frizzle boy is 1st, then the Black Silkie (if you want him, Kim) and then the White. The last is the Partridge Sizzle, he has a straight comb that flops over like a Leghorn's.
Anyone else, feel free to speak up if you want one lol There's 12 altogether, not 11.
