And again, great job on the chicken tractor!

Help! I'm worried that I started hatching the wrong blue eggs... my EE girl and my CL are laying eggsthat look almost alike, one is just a little more oblong than the other. I tried putting food coloring on the EE's vent, but I have to do it at night and by the time she lays her egg it has apparently worn off, because neither egg had color on it today.

Do you guys have any tips that might help?

Short of putting her in a separate pen or watching the nest boxes all day I don't know. The food coloring trick never worked for me either. Someone later told me you have to use the gels in the cake decorating area, not the liquid drops in the grocery section. I haven't tried that yet.

I went on vacation for 4 days and came back to two broody hens. My neighbor took care of the animals for us so I have no clue when they started This will be my first time having a broody and my nest boxes are 5 gallon buckets attached to a 2x4 at about 3 feet off the ground. There is no way to remove the buckets without unscrewing them. Will they be ok that high off the ground?

Yes they will be fine. You need to MARK those eggs so if the other hens slip a few extras in there they won't be at different stages of incubation. Take a marker or pencil and draw a line completely around the middle of the egg so it's easy to spot if there is one there that doesn't belong. When the chicks hatch, once they are done and dry she will hop down and cluck to the chicks to encourage them to jump down, too. They will not be hurt by the fall.

If you wanted to try and move them to their own personal cage you can, but there is a risk they will abandon the nest with the change of living quarters. Do it at night for the best chance of success.

Here's why I think your egg is so dark.  Brown egg coating is in a finite amount within the egg duct.  So if the egg is exceptionally large, the regular amount of pigment is spread over a larger surface area and the egg will be lighter than usual.  If the egg is exceptionally small, there is more pigment over the smaller area leading to a much darker egg than usual.

That makes sense. I'm just expecting the frizzle to start laying. She's just at the 6-7 month age, and I figure, that she the next one to likely start laying. She had a stressful day yesterday. Just REFUSED to coop, at the end of the day. My wife and I chased her, for three hours, through the woods, trying to get her in the coop. My wife just loves these "novelty" chickens, and would be heartbroken, if it ran off, and never made it home. But, she's mean to the babies, so we can't put her in there. She gets along okay with the turkeys and guineas, I may have to start putting her in with them. But, they free range, too. It's difficult to single her out, for staying in the coop.
I'm not sure what to do, but I think I will put her in the isolation cage, inside the coop, to keep her from going out, but, we have about 6-8 pullets, going in there, in the next week. So, it's something I have to figure out.

Oh heck yes lol They get pregnant as soon as giving birth and sometimes don't get their 1st litter weaned before the 2nd is born :-D I'm already stressing on getting my girls separated from my boys and they're only 10-12 wks. Boys can be fertile as soon as 12 wks and girls can get pregnant every 30 days starting about 16 wks. No thanks. Mine are multiplying fast enough with just me buying them-I already have 6 and I'm picking up another French Lop tomorrow

I always thought Tylan was more like Tetracycline in that it wouldn't work for infections in the skin? (I don't know, am just thinking out loud).
I never did give mine antibiotics after crop surgery. They heal up so dang good from even bad wounds that I figured they'd be fine without it.
If she's pooping 90% of your battle is over. It means everything is working and nothing's holding it back all through her system-hooray! Great job. I'm so glad you did it.

I'm beating you, I had 2 one June 14th, and today I have 20. lol

Now when I've got this many chickens you won't lol I just never knew they were so puppy-like. They run to me when they see me and put their little heads down to get petted. It always amazes me when something actually likes me
