***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I seem to always have coons around. My property has a creek running through it, don't know if that is why, I have trapped 7 so far this year and there is another that has been coming around the last few weeks. So far it is just eating the extra chicken feed on the ground. I lock all my chickens up every night. I actually have to buy a new trap because the 7 i trapped have tore up the trap i was using. Only killed 3 snakes so far. Unfortunately one of the snakes got a baby silkie chick.

I have just learned you can make wine from chocolate, my oh my you know what my fermenters will be filled w/ when not in fruit season!!!!!!

Lost my sweet Gizmo over nite, she was a sweet girl, a micro serama, only 6 ounces and the feistiest little lady, would run up and goose the dog when she wasn't looking- she will be missed

Oh @artsyrobin, I'm so sorry! RIP sweet Gizmo :-(
@NanaKat, I'm so sorry for your losses also. Such a shock to discover something like that.

Is it normal for chickens to lay less after a move? We went from 6ish eggs a day to 1 or 2. It's been a week now, everyone seems to be acting fine.
We are loving the ducks. They are soooo much fun to watch. Not really foraging much tho, think that will pick up as they get more used to a real pond? They hardly talk now, just in the mornings and at night.

There's that barn we are still cleaning out. We are going to have to get a dumpster. In the meantime the ducks sleep in a dog crate in the chicken coop. It works for now.

It's been non stop work out here. And there's lots of drama involving my old house. Glad I'm too busy to worry about it all day. Very grateful for inlaws.
@poco pollo were you able to vent sex the goose?
@NanaKat are you available Sunday for me to come get the pair? PM me when you can and we can go over the details.

I turned the goose over and checked its vent. I pushed down the edges of the vent to see inside. I did not see a corkscrew as described by nanakat. I think the goose is female. If you would like to add her to your flock, my husband would be a cappy hamper. I will miss her terribly, but I know she will enjoy being where she is smiled at rather than frowned at.

Yes perfect! Sorry, I saw your post earlier but haven't taken the time to respond. I'd love her. Let me get with cathiesue and see of I can coordinate a day to get SFH eggs. You are in the Tulsa area correct? If you need me to get her sooner I can try for next weekend.

So sorry @NanaKat and @artsyrobin for your losses :( Nanakat I hope you catch the raccoon tonight. I'm dreading the day I wake up to a predator attack. No signs of them yet but we're still new and I'm certain it's just a matter of time. It's a frightening thought. I love these girls and boys. Right now my Pyrenees sleeps in the silkie run. It's hilarious but it works!

19 eggs in the incubator, 1 week till lockdown! This is my last test before spending $$$ on fancy eggs. So far I'm in love with this incubator. Thanks again @ksane The incubator is up in our loft and I forget to check it more than I should  but it is truly perfect at maintaining a stable temp. I'll bring it down from the loft before lockdown so I can keep humidity up and watch the action :)

So much going on these days it's exhausting! I fall asleep fast and wake up thinking "chickens, must check on chickens"

i have had chickens 5 years, only once have i woken to what a coon can do, after training the dogs, we have had no nite attacks- with your dog on patrol you probably will be doing good!

thank you all with Gizmo, its tough to lose one you hatched- and she was a special little buddy

Worked in the garden most of today, weeding and clearing sunflowers from the fence line. Made three trips to the brush pile with the dumpbed on the Ranger piled high.

Then we secured all the birds, set the live trap and six snap traps.
While we were doing that, a coyote was yelping from the pond bank behind the barn and a horned owl landed on one of the Purple Martin poles the swooped down into the garden at the cat! Roger did not have a good shot at either one.
We put Murdock in the hot tub room for the night so he wouldn't investigate the traps.
:fl we catch something tonight.

i sure hope you get whatever is doing it- so devastating to lose them that way!

any guesses on our Oreo yet, MR OR Miss?? 4 month old Polish mix

and we have a broody.... this girl from @Loriemarler she currently is the only one laying in the main flock, and is pretty serious about that empty nest under her...
