***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Sabrinamarie... Welcome to the Okie thread. Someone will come long soon who may be interested in your Delaware cockerel. He is pretty.

We worked up apples yesterday and made 18 pints of apple butter and an apple/cranberry pie. Today we butchered the first of our home-raised quail. 13 ready to go into the fridge to relax before going to the freezer. Also saved the hearts, livers and gizzards for fish bait for the grandchildren. total weight was 4.5 pounds...not bad for 13 little quail.
.

Now I can go out and move quail around and put some in the fattening cages. I will clean the cages and then the babies in the brooder go out to the barn, babies in the house brooder to go to the big brooder and eggs to go into the hatcher on Saturday. We should have an endless supply of birds for the freezer until the laying season falls off until spring.
We have been putting nicer sized females and the best males into the breeding pen at about 7 weeks of age when they reach maturity. The smaller sized go into the fattening cages.

@bardies I keep forgetting to update you on that little partridge chick we got from you. I was about 80% sure he was a she, but I believe I may be wrong! Either way, this chick is staying. He is stunning, I will get beautiful babies from him

Its hard to see the orange/red on him in this picture, but its more obvious in the sunlight.

And here are some of the bantams, they feel a little left out because Im always posting about silkies of SFHs. But I love this group.

@NanaKat I hope the EKG thing is nothing serious and your surgery isn't too far away. That super lovable boy you gave us took off from the observation area, found the girls, made them his, and thereby ended the whole isolation plan. I should have had him farther away to begin with, I had no idea he would be so determined. He's also tried to claim the SFHs when they stop by while free ranging, but they're not feeling it. Its pretty cute tho, he loves the ladies.

The ducks now have a super tiny pool by the house.

Im hoping the goose will teach them the joys of pond life, but I still want them to visit during the day because they are super hilarious and so fun to have waddling around. Im so excited about the goose, we have so much greenery for her. She's going to love it.

Coweta fairgrounds, and it starts at 6:00 pm and runs through whenever, depending on how much they have to sell. Their FB post says: COWETA POULTRY AUCTION!!!!!!!! This Friday September 19th will be our regular monthly sale at the Wagoner County Fairgrounds in Coweta, OK. Located behind the Coweta Schools football field. Check in starts at noon and the auction at 6:00 p.m. As always we start the sale with equipment (farm related only) eggs, baby chicks, and then the caged birds and rabbits. Cages do not have to sell with the consignments. We will have a special consignment of 250 to 300 laying hens in Black Australorps, Ameracaunas, Buff Orpington and more. We also will have Millie Fleur D'Uccles, Millie Fleur Bantam Cochins, and Large Fowl Cochins in blue and black. As always this should be a great sale. Come join the fun. You can find them on FB under Crozier Auctions.

So glad you like it! From the picture, it still looks female to me. They are soooo hard to tell sometimes! I love your duck stories :)

I know it, I'm stumped! Problem is there are few pictures of pullet silkie combs. The Catdance girl is my oldest silkie and she has a pretty large comb, not sure if that's normal or not but I've watched her lay an egg! So this partridge doesn't have a flat comb (it has little bumps on it) but it's not as big as the catdance comb either. Who knows???? These silkies are a mystery. :) He's 5 months old now so should start making gender pretty clear. Coloring says pullet tho.

And these ducks are kinda my new favorites around here. I might have to get a drake ;)

Where is the coweta auction and what are the hours?

Ty kyzmette! I cant add anymore birds but id love to go watch and see the different breeds!

Looks like you got your answer already. Welcome! I usually stop by for a few minutes as I only live about 5 minutes from there, but don't normally stay since my kids can be pretty rowdy (8, 6, 5, 2). When they are older (or on the occasion I have a sitter for them) I will stay longer though. It's a fun place to visit and you get the itch for ALL kinds of birds looking at those beauties!
