Sixshooter, do you know of a BBQ or steak house in McAlister a few yrs. ago that had a line of people waiting to get in, don't know what it was called.

Mine get laying crumbles, they eat it better than pellets, I've read it is a complete and balanced diet if it is from a knen producer, I usually get Nutrena since it is what most places around here sell. I get it cheaper than if I bought it at Atwoods or TSC. When I do feed scratch I have to limit it or they will not eat the other food.

Shel, I think I'm doing it all wrong, too. I mix equal amounts of oats, sweet feed, layer pellets, corn, chicken scratch & oyster shell into a barrel and feed them as much as they want every day. They've got about 3/4 an acre they wander around on for bugs and weeds and grass, too. I've only got 9 chickens until the babies are ready to go out.
We've had chickens around for years that the neighbors moved off and left but it wasn't until a month ago that I purposely went out and GOT some. I need to read up on what a proper chicken diet is, I guess.
