***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Monty,
I think many are in that boat with the spring chicks having come up in age and a need to unload extra Roosters and cut back on Pullets when too many survive it can be a problem. Your best bet is to free range as much as possible to cut back on feed costs, pick the ones you really don't want to keep and make sure they free range as they will keep the predators at bay from teh better ones. I like the idea of cutting back some but when it costs more to get rid of them rather than keep them I say Keep them till the price is right. I posted several for sale if they sale before this fall for the price I want then so be it, if not I get to eat eggs. 8 weeks goes fast the prices will be back up soon keep in mind kids will be needing birds for show and fairs by then.

Sooner, You can Downsize your flock but Lil-Sooner needs to increase hers... That sounds good to me.. Do I need to get that started with a donation?

Lil'Sooners birds won't be going anywhere but everything else needs to decrease. I just have too many for no good reason. No donations until this heat lets up. I have lost one of the blue wyndottes she got from you guys. Hopefully I don't lose anymore.

Good Morning Okies

Been busy spending time with the family....

Oven went out about 2 months ago and I finally got it replaced this weekend. A new convection... just what we needed.

I have downloaded our flock to just 3 main breeds and we have down sized them to just 6 or 7 of each. I still have my 6 ducks. Looking for more muskovey

If anyone would be interested in the building that I used for a concession stand at Fletcher, please let me know.

I also have an extra refridgerator that I might sale if anyone is interested.

Everyone stay cool... Lost a Naked Neck yesterday. Not sure of the cause.

Peaches

It sure wouldn't take long to downsize if I free ranged here.
We have caught two coons but saw five half grown ones cross the road about 100 yards from the driveway so looks there is a steady supply of those.
I am glad that I haven't lost many chicks to illness this year. That is good but it does create a glut. I know everyone is in pretty much the same boat. I was just trying to get some chatter going. I plan to hang on to the big birds until the fall unless someone wants them now.
I am gonna sell most my older Cuckoo Marans and Welsummer hens. As for chicks I have a lot of NN/ Giant outcrosses that didn't get the naked neck plus a lot of blue and splash EE's. I am planning to keep all of my NN pullets but I am gonna have to sell some of the cockerals.
Thanks for the good avice. I know others will benefit from it as well.

But Lil Sooner needs some play chickens that she doesn't have to worry about getting dirty!

Sixshooter, How close are you to the Ammunition Depot? I know Stuart is just west of there a bit. Going to get to hunt there again this fall! Can't wait!

Hey Beth, What other breeds did you add this year. I still have the two Australorps and they are doing OK in the heat so far. I have several black chickens and they don't seem to be suffering any more than the others with the heat.
Are you ready for some Naked Necks?

Hey Shelly,
Good to see you back with us. It has been awhile. I have been to Barnsdall a few times but it was several years ago.
Now that you are back, you can't leave. That is one of our strictest rules!
