***OKIES in the BYC III ***

This is so devastating. I'm super nervous about fires, maybe a little too much. I unplug almost everything before bed at night.

@Kassaundra I imagined the art as a quilt for the walls. Closest I'll ever get to the actual thing! Also we're gluten free! Going on 3 years now.

Out of 30 shipped eggs I have 22 in lockdown. Hoping for a good hatch.

How do you guys think the banana egg pancakes would store if the fridge or freezer? It sounds like something that would be great for taking to work with me.

I would think they would store pretty well, we never have any leftovers so I haven't tried.

I don't know if anyone else is up right now but I am terrified watching my neighbors house burn down. We had stayed up late watching tv and was getting ready for bed when hubby heard a truck driving down the road. It was the fire truck. Fire rescue and ambulances were there and tankers showed up. 3people got out of the house but not everyone. I feel so helpless right now watching the firefighters. An hour later and the flames are still going. Thankfully the house is a good 300 yards away at least but it is terrifying that it happened at all.

The fire Marshall said it was a space heater that caused the fire. It is very sad. I haven't had the heart to walk by there yet but I am pretty sure there is nothing left

Oh that is terrible and heartbreaking. Prayers for their family. Space heaters terrify me. We almost had a fire a few weeks ago when my son draped a blanket over a heater to make a blanket fort. I noticed it after about 10-15 minutes.

I lost my old LF Buff Cochin hen, Peaches, yesterday. She was about 6 and hadn't layed much in the last year, maybe a dozen eggs total. She was a calm bird and had a ridiculously long and loud egg song. She also team hunted for mice with both of my dogs. When ever she saw my dog digging, she would stand close by and wait for the rodent stampede. I saw her do that last week with our new dog. A few days ago I saw that she wasn't very active I brought her into the garage where she could be warm and dry.





I also lost my last Speckled Sussex pullet. She was close to the point of lay and a very friendly bird. Most of those chicks that I bought last Spring were not very strong. I wonder if there was an inbreeding issue. Dorthy was healthy though. I think she may have aspirated on something. I read somewhere once what to do for that but can't remember.

I also lost a 2nd Black/Lavender bantam Cochin pullet. If this trend keeps up I will have no birds by Spring.

I am so sorry! I remember you talking about peaches before- gorgeous girl and well cared for. Cochins are so elegant!

I lost a duck last week, and Jacob the disabled silkie yesterday-both not unexpected, but hard anyway.

This guy showed up Christmas eve, he is good with the birds, but we really don't need another dog, he is well fed and mannerly, hope he wanders back home soon, unless someone here may need a good dog. He is pretty hefty, a little bigger than my dogs

Ten and Two feedstore just moved to a location right on my road! It seems to have some prices competitive with TSC, so I'm tickled. Their chops are only $6, which is less than 75% of TSC'S price. Their scratch is pricey, though, $12, but I've refused to buy scratch since I sicced the OK Ag Dept on TSC. I picked up a bag to check it out and I'm happy with it. I'll keep it on hand to supplement the layer feed. It's Big V; are any of you familiar with the brand?

MJ my condolences on your losses. Six years is a ripe old age for a hen. I know how spoiled your flock is, so she had six long, happy years.

Lorie, did your neighbors have animals? My neighbors lost their home to a fire and had so much to take care of with their own necessities that petcare needs were just too much. My mother and I kept them supplied with dogfood until the insurance came in. They'll get food and basics from charities and churches, but petfood is often overlooked, and would probably be greatly appreciated.

That is horrible, at any time. Even more so, at the holidays.

Been battling illness since mid October. Thinking its all related back to the rocky mountain spotted fever as I keep running a fever off and on but I can't afford to go to a doctor to find out and our great state refuses to play by the new health care rules ... sad when a supposedly first world country makes its citizens go bankrupt to get health care. Sigh.

Yes the Coweta Co-op carrries Big V. I've been pretty happy with it. I don't use it exclusively but I've never had problems with it. A lot better than the half-dust, buggy junk my Atwoods carries.
