***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Shouldn't be much of a problem. If your hen is the bantam she will probably be torn up from the larger rooster (missing back feathers). If your rooster is the bantam and your hen full size then there shouldn't be a problem at all. At least there hasnt been any major problem here and I have a big ol rooster. Only problem so far is his favorite hen has a bareback.

Ok but what you get from that. A full size or bantam.

This poor chick is having a rough start. She pipped late on day 21 and started her zip hole early on day 22 but was shrink wrapped and stalled out. I helped just a bit and left her while I went to work. Well she made it out but she's a mess

I'm wrapping her in moist paper towel to try to get the the gunk off her feathers and unstick her wing and also going to splint her feet to see if she will gain use of her toes. Anything else I can do to help her? Any suggestions for taping feathered feet?
warm water and blo dry should help, check here for bobbling the legs and chick shoes

Coral, I just wanted to tell you thank you. Saturday I sat out in the sunshine, Phtheven on my lap, petting him until we both fell asleep. He's stopped crowing and he no longer chases the girls. He's such a good boy. When the new coop is up and ready, I'm going to build Bumpers her own pen, and Phtheven will probably be in with her. Thank you for making it possible for him to stay.

I woke up from my nap when poor Phtheven fell off my lap... apparently that's when he woke up too. ;) Poor guy.

Humm... i thought i would be something in between not large or bantam.  but i don't know much about chicken genetics

It very well could be somewhere in the middle. I just assume it would either big or little. Kinda like kids.. they are either short or tall depending on what genetics they get.

I think you're right. I also think LF cochins and pekins aren't actually related. But I'm no expert. Also the LF are huge compared to pekins. I'm not sure how a pekin roo could mate a LF hen but I suppose where there's a will there's a way ;)

If I were trying to breed two that were very different in size, I think I would AI. If the hen is smaller this would save her from wear and tear and possible injury especially if the size difference is extreme, if the small one is the male and the size is extreme I would think there may be fertility issues w/ him trying but not hitting the mark.

The other thing w/ extreme size differences, that might be a problem is if the chick is genetically very large from the large parent, but in the small egg of the small parent they may not survive hatch?
