What a nice article!Kassaundra and I now have something more in common than chickens and quilting....we both have interviews in this thread in the families thread in the Social section.

I posted in emergencies, but haven't had any replies yet. One of my pullets developed a limp yesterday. I first noticed she was slow to get up to roost, then she was limping around on the post. I went ahead and let everyone out today since she is on the lower end of the pecking order. She is eating and making her way around the yard. She is pretty flighty, so I haven't tried to catch her. I'm thinking about putting her in a large dog kennel tonight. Maybe with a friend. Here is a video. Any thoughts?https://goo.gl/photos/SVwP1je4EaTbqNEd6
It's not a bad limp. I'm guessing it's a sprain. The best thing you can do for her is crate her and force her to rest it while it heals, I'd say for a week, and see if it is improved at that point.
I agree w/ Rinda, probably a sprain / strain. Forced rest, no jumping no rooster attention.

Thank you both. The funny thing is that he doesn't seem to know that he's a rooster. Too many dominant hens. Now that I said that, he'll probably crow tomorrow morning. I caught her in the coop, and when I examined her leg, the only thing I found was what looked like a little dried blood under one nail. I put some peroxide on it and put her in a huge dog kennel with a less dominant pullet.

Maybe. It was getting dark when I examined her under the porchlight. She did not seem to have tenderness to touch or being manipulated. Would you recommend a different course of treatment if so?Looking at the video, the problem may be in the hock. She may have caught the toe and injured herself pulling away. Is there any swelling in the hock or tenderness in the hip?
