***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Coral the two darker chicks w/ the spots on their heads, that hatched from white eggs have what looks like leaf combs and are developing top knots I think. Does that help to ID parentage?
If they hatched form white eggs, then their momma was a Cream Brabanter. That explains the top knots. Daddy could be other than Cream Brabanter, though.

I have a single chick that hatched Dec 28th and need desperately to find a buddy or two for it. It is a chochin or chochin cross, so should be small. If anyone has like aged/sized chicks that they can donate or I can purchase, it would be very appreciated!!!! I am located south of OKC in Newcastle but can drive to pick up or meet.

Hope you all that lost power are finally getting it back!

were you able to find babies to keep him company?

No, not yet. But there is an auction in Newcastle tomorrow, I am sure I can pick something up there...although it would be nice just to get a few instead of a dozen. Maybe I'll get lucky!
Meantime, several fluffy socks and a bath poof seem to be doing ok keeping him from 'yelling' all the time.

Went to the evil empire of wallieworld this morning and walked by to see this

It is amazing how 'busy' chicks like to be with other chicks...no wonder singles are not happy. Got friends for my guy. They are americaunas - three black/lav split and one lavender. The color difference between them and my guy makes me wonder about the pedigree of mine. In the desparate search for potential viable eggs after a skunk attack, I took small eggs from the 'eatin' pile'. It is possible that I have a cochin egg that came from a splash cochin hen that is out in the main coop. Any one of a large number of young roosters could have gotten to her - including a barred rock (no), BLRW (prob not), Americanaus (they said...on the blue eggs, but many of the birds came out with fluffy cheeks and leg feathers)....these dads are quite likely..we also have a tiny roo (doubtful), a couple of silkies (possible) and a showgirl (not likely). But, based on the coloring - I am thinking a mix with my splash...giving the chick a blue gene.
The lavender chick reminds me of penguin chicks!

The lighter colored one in the middle is my original guy. It is a day older than the new chicks. He grew a lot in the last 12 hours (funny how they do that!)
