***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We're down from 12 pullets to 9. One BR went to live at my mom's and the other 2 were taken by a predator last night. Weird thing is, there were no discernible tracks, no signs of a snake, no carcass, no blood. Just a bunch of feathers and scratch marks in the dirt. Our dogs did not alert us, either. Whatever it was, had to be strong enough to move a large plastic dog porter a few feet without tipping it, or leaving much evidence of it's coming and going. Our other pullets are safe, but we're going to set out live traps tonight to see if we can catch the culprit if it comes back for more.

OH nooo. I'm sorry to hear that! I hope you get it caught and relocated without anymore chickens getting hurt. :c

Of course the shows are open to viewers! This is not a huge one, but it is well done--and there's a nice flea market in the same huge room, easily accessed from the show. You can actually come in any time the barn is open, but the show actually starts at 9:00 a.m. Saturday. The barn is open from 12 to noon Friday and again at 7 Saturday morning. There is a sales room, and you get the best choice of birds if you come Friday evening or fairly early Saturday morning. You don't want to wait too long to come, because as soon as everything is finished everyone clears out in a hurry.

I don't know if the Serama club is also having a show in conjunction with this one, but if they do, it is fun to watch. It is very different from other poultry shows and quite entertaining. I feel sure they'll have one at the big show/sale in Shawnee the second weekend in December. The pigeon club usually has a BIG show in the other half of the Expo building at the same time.

Hello Betsy, how early Saturday before they start to clear out?

Good to see you here! I think it is usually late afternoon--around 4 or 5, but it could be earlier, especially if the Seramas aren't being shown.

Anyone going to the Canadian Valley Poultry Show in Norman?  Entries must be postmarked by September 28.  This is always a nice show.  You can get information by contacting [email protected].  Hope to see some of you there!

Are these open to non-competitors to come view the birds? I'd love to go to one of these shows. In the past I've always ended up forgetting about them.

Yes, it is an open to the public show. Nice variety of birds too. Betsy's Silkies are always show stoppers. Several breeders will have extra birds to sell. Saturday judging is completed and results announced about noon.

@Poco Pollo and anyone else up for a good chuckle. Those 4 cross girls I got from you are still growing and getting big and meaty. I've been waiting for them to start laying, to cross them w/ my nakeds. Those two that were really big have stayed really big all along, they have tiny and pale combs and I'm sure are Cornish cross. Those two smaller ones (still a respectable size just not in the league w/ Tank 1 and 2) they have bigger combs, but not huge floppy single combs, nice tidy little single combs, I've been pretty sure for a long time they are actually white rocks instead of Cornish crosses. Anyway their combs have been brightening for a week or two so I'm thinking eggs are coming soon. I had not been able to get a good look at them for a week or so, but today I was down checking on the injured chick and noticed them, my wait for eggs may be longer then I expected ................................................. they are boys!!!!! lol lol lol Not Tank 1 and 2 they are for sure girls.
