***OKIES in the BYC III ***

One of my 9 month old pullets is molting for sure. She has tiny pin feathers poking out all over her head, her long hackle feathers are gone, and her longer tail feathers are gone. Looks sort of like a pillow fight went down in the coop and run. It doesn't seem to be a full blown molt, at least not yet. We'll see how many feathers she loses. I just worry about her going nearly naked in the winter. Hoping it's just a mini-molt or she molts gradually, so that she doesn't have to go into the brooder box when the temps drop. I wonder if any of the others will molt early too.

I would suggest making sure she is not eating egg layer while going through her molt. It encourages them to take the energy required to grow feathers and lay eggs. They don't lay well and they don't finish their molt.

@CLSranch They have all stopped laying for the winter. Okay by me. We've opted not to heat or light their coop, so I sort of expected them to take a break. We insulated instead. If she gets big bald spots, I have a nice big brooder crate I can put her in under a heat lamp. Or, maybe I can make her a sweater.

Well that might solve one of my issues too. Hmm

Just popping in to say hi! It's been awhile since I posted (like years i think) and my flock has more than grown. My aunt ordered me an incubator for Christmas and it's supposed to arrive friday so I'm really excited. I actually hatched quite a few chicks last year on a borrowed incubator. It'll be nice to have my own finally! So anyways just saying hey! I see NanaKat is still here, im still using that chicken n dumpling recipe for my older roos, thanks again! Lol
