***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Is it just me or do white hens get picked off more easily by predators? I've lost 2 white ones in the last couple of months before dusk while they were out free ranging. I need some replacement pullets. Anybody have some near Cleveland County? Not white LOL! I'd love some olive or Easter eggers.

Welcome to the "Okies in the BYC"
We are a group of chicken loving people from Oklahoma and a few states beyond. Please jump in and tell us about yourself and your birds.

Hi, everyone! I'm new to Oklahoma. I had 3 chickens I loved in Florida. The were my "pets w/benefits." LOL What are the best breeds for OK County's crazy weather?
(I couldn't find where to "jump in and tell" about myself and my birds. LOL)

I don't think they make a bad chicken for Oklahoma. But with all the rain we've been having I wish mine didn't have feathered feet & legs, makes for muddy eggs... welcome to BYC!

my healthiest are brahmas of all things, lol even in heat, they are oblivious to it lol

@Sooner Magnolia sadly unless you have a covered enclosed run, you will lose birds. No way around it. I lost way too many, shifted to a covered run. I lost most the ducks, a few chickens, guinea, a goose. I gave up, my heart couldn't take the losses - so they are safe in a run and healthier, few major illnesses too

Mine have a covered coop and run plus an uncovered area that has good tree cover for foraging. I've lost a guinea and a duck to an owl (nighttime mishaps). I've only lost one bird during the day, to a dog that I used to have.
