Been lurking for a few days so I thought I would check in and say hello.
So who is going to Cement on Saturday? I am planning on going, can't decide if I am going to take some birds to sell or not. If I do it will only be a few mainly EEs. I have some really nice colors but too many.
Sounds like everyone is struggling with this heat. Lost a young turkey the other day, just keeled over it looks like, right by the sprinkler and water trough.
So far I have lost 3 of my best EE hens and the turkey. Everyone else seems to be doing okay. They all have access to plenty of water and lots of shade, which is the best I can do for them. I am really blessed that my place has so many big trees, that has helped all of us. Going to get more automatic waters built once I get the new pens put together. I have enough barrels to make waterers for the new pens and old ones.
Speaking of new pens, I am so excited about the two kennels I got at Maud. Have had to make some modifications to them, which has add about $60 to the cost but for less then $100, total, I have two 8x10 kennels, I am not complaining. New breeder pen and a new quarantine pen. Yeah!!!
Well I better get out there now that the sun is setting and get some work done before it is too dark.
As you have already seen from the responses to your request for birds, you have found a wonderful group of folks who enjoy enabling others in the acquisition of more birds than you ever thought you wanted to own
Were not doing no more rabbits. sold them all off. Birds are doing good getting about half the egg out put Still doing good. I have some very nice turkeys this year. And the doves we got are mating better then the rabbits ever did. We have five new babies. How are yall? Are we going to see you this weekend and if so are you going to bring honey?

Michiele - Wonderful pictures! I expect your two groups will "work it out" and become a single group fairly soon. Chickens are social birds. They enjoy company.
I have a little roo that has a leg problem. Can't find a wound but he won't put any weight on it. I am watching to see if he improves but it is doubtful.
He has a pullet friend that is always by his side. There are other young birds in the pen too but these two are almost always together. If I have to cull the little roo I'l feel so sad his pullet friend. This part of chicken farming is HARD!
