Blanch sale start's at 5 wer thankful to have a sale still in the tuff time's...Hope to see lot's of okie's ther..

Firefly the sale I'm going to is the am,but you might have a hard time getting home before DBF! It would be about a 10 hour drive for you! Its in Elkton ,Ky.
Mi chael sounds like a good sale weekend,lots of folks selling downtheir flock sizes. I guess you could turn them out to free range and put Macey on gard duty till the market comes back,she should have a pretty good size bunch of hides for market by then!lol

The drought is making predators worse! The guy next door had the well put in maybe 50 ft from our barn. I know he wasn't trying to be close to our barn, but power company wanted to ge as close as possible to go off our lines. Now he has a big tank of water that is attracting everything! DH spends the mornings sitting out with a riffle chasing coyotes & anything else that isn't livestock. His convalescent leave is over soon. He goes back to work Tuesday. Might have to start keeping the birds closed up most of the time.
Think we lost 3 chickens this week just to hawks. Not even counting to see how many we haven't seen get snatched up! Will be glad when all the creeks get filled back up so the predators won't be drinking from the tank next to my barn. They have all figured out it is a good source of food & water.

I have to work all day Saturday so I can't go to any sales.
I am still looking hard for a little mille fleur or earthtone mottled Serama girl. I'm going to be real sad if someone brings one to sell and I miss it due to working. I did check out the Guy Rose Auction a couple of weeks ago and there were some there but they were all boys.

it is entirely possible thi stime of year and given the breed and variety you are wanting all you will find are cockrells. the Mille or even spangled patterned Seramas are pricey at best when you can find a nice one and the pullets will likely be retained even given some sizeable faults to produce a better one for next year. both patterns are recessive and hard to get so once the pattern is achieved further breeding for proper size and type will begin.

Set several laive traps with different baits to cath the critters while your not out there, it will decrease teh populations faster than a bullet because you can several in on evening while your sleeping.
As bad as it may sound female ducks make great live trap bait as they will call all night long and so long as the trap is made with a seperate whole for the bait she can't be touched by teh captured animal. just rotate your ducks out and do not leave the same one out for more than 3-4 days as she will quit calling. Given that you will catch the cats, coyotes, coons, and even winged predators very quickly with bait they can't refuse.
i have had no predator losses with the exception of a dog, in over a year now, but we keep out several live traps with Tuna, sardines, cull birds, etc. for bait.

Wayne, Dallas grass is a tough wide blade bunch grass with stemmy seed heads that are actually sticky. It is a weed grass as far as I'm concerned when it is in the lawn or garden, but it does make good pasture. MSMA is the only spray that even touches it, I don't like to use sprays in the yard and garden. If I can catch it when the bermuda goes dormant, I will use a little round-up. It grows really fast so a few days after you mow the yard, it looks unkept again.
