***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hello everyone, welcome to all the newcomers!!! I am just dropping in to say hi, hope all had a wonderful Christmas and a safe New Years! My chickens are doing good, never got lights put up but still getting about a dozen eggs a day as opposed to 3 or 4 dozen a day, but that's good. i had a friend give me some Game chickens the other day, some nice Red Quill crosses! Not getting out to the chicken pens too often lately but things are going OK. Just celebrated Dakota's 17th Bday last night he had friends over and they did the teen thing with music, truck tailgates and let him have a bonfire in the front yard and cook hot dogs and then we surprised him with him 1974 Ford pickup for his Bday!!! yeah he was excited! its not new but it was a hit with him!!! hope all is well, if you need to contact me look for me on FB!!! Have great day!!! Lynn

thanks for all the responses. I am in nw okc and found a tractor supply in edmond. Didn't see an atwoods near me. I know there is britton feed but wanted to go with a name i was familiar with. Most of the hatcheries I looked at don't do small orders until around march. I found a guy locally that raises and sells chickens. Cheap way to get started and avoid the shipping costs. Thanks everyone.

I would try Britton Feed. They maybe a little cheaper than Attwoods and probably carry a name brand, I prefer to buy my feed from the local feed stores,

I may have missed this but does anyone have a list of poultry sales for 2013. Preferably in the northeastern part of Oklahoma. I've always had birds, but never really been to big poultry sales, so don't really know much about when or where they are.

I would like to check out the Wister auction but it's too far away from me. I'll have to check out Chupps near Inola. And maybe I can get me some Amish goodies while I'm in that area.
There is also the Guy Rose Auction in Perkins every Saturday. I think it starts at 9:30 am with poultry (well, they start with produce if there is some there).

And you can always look in pennysaver for auction listings.. My ex introduced me to estate auctions and goes to the guy rose one almost every Saturday. While I got to pick out the birds, I haven't had the nerve to bid myself yet.

Welcome to the Okie forum! Try azurestandard.com for feed they do drop deliveries once a month. Should be a drop not to far from you.
Doodle I don't know how you do it! Somehow amazing critters always find you.
Did I miss anything good at the Newcastle auction?
Not really. There was an incubator and hatcher that went for $350 each to me that wasn't a deal of course I don't need them so that is probably why haha. Some birds but not really anything I wanted to bid on. Full grown guineas went for $5 each it was all I could do not to bid on them (of course hubby helped remind me I still have over 40 at home). We may go again in 2 weeks and take hatching eggs. I have set 4 trays of eggs this last month (well one was Nathanael's eggs from his OEGBs) and not sure how much hatching I will do.

I did get everyone pretty much set up in breeding pens this weekend. Decided I am getting rid of the Golden Salmon Marans, I had wanted to last fall but only people calling wanted me to ship them long distances and I am not willing to do that. I am also selling a pair of Blue Splash Marans, kind of sad to sell them they are such a sweet couple. The roo just dotes on his hen they are so much fun to watch in the yard. I still have birds to move around but that will have to wait until the next big weekend I am adding two pens and moving the guinea breeders, that will be fun because we know how much fun it is to handle guineas

I had eggs shipped from Yukon Oklahoma to tahlequah from a hatchery and hatched maybe 3 out of 2'dozen. They wrapped them in single ply toilet paper and put them in an egg carton. Was not pretty. Have had others from Oklahoma ship me eggs and great hatches. Okcarla wraps them so well it's almost a puzzle unwrapping each one ( not complaining). Have had other eggs from several states a way with good %. Shipped eggs will pretty much always give you a lower % than your own eggs. It's a gamble that sometimes pays off. So I've had great results and extremely disappointing results with shipped eggs.
Anyone close to tahlequah have any if the following eggs available.
Bantam rocks barred or white.
Bantam turkens.
Large fowl turkens
RIR
Silver laced wyandottes
I will have RIR eggs in a few weeks if the girls cooperate and will have Silver Laced Wyandottes once the girls start laying. But so far they are holding out on my lol. The only bantams we have are Buff Brahmas (son has 2 trios and 2 pairs of those) for eggs we have Partridge bantam cochins, buff cochins and some bantam EE's (the girls are blue/black ees and the boys are little blue EE/Phonix crosses) they lay green eggs.
