***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Nana hate that you are having to sell off more cattle! We have been in garden mode here. DH spent most of the day on the tractor. I go to the lung dr on Thursday & what the doctor says will determine the future of our garden. Reguardless we will plant the basic pick one time stuff- like corn & melons. Not sure if we are starting many of our own plants this yr, I am trying my best to focus on catching up on homeschool stuff that was missed as I have been recovering.
Hope Blanchard auction is a good one tonight. DH wanted to go but this is his last weekend off until April-- honey do list was more important than buying more projects.
Biggest news of the day-- both my Silver Appleyards are laying now!!! We soon will be setting small batches of duck eggs every wk. I was in Tarons room earlier & she has 3 dz chicken eggs ready to set. Let the hatching begin!

Can't believe it's that warm in Okla. in jan! Doesn't bode good for later in the year I'm afraid!
Went to the sale today. Bought a box of games. Chickens that is, rooster and four hens. I have been wanting some for setters.these were a mix of varietys, someone said they had claret in them. But when I got them home the roo is kind of crippled. Has a bad toe and looks like he may have pulled is thigh joint trying to get his toe loose. I hate when people put sick or injured birds in a sale. Shows the caliber of people they are! But he may get over it and the hens are gorgeous, each a different color.
Kass I can't believe how many rasberrys you have transplanted! Are they reds or blacks? Envy you the fruits, they aer delicious!

They are reds I got 6ish plants about 8 ish years ago (as close as I can remember maybe closer to 10 years though) from Stark Bro. they were supose to be good for the south. I planted them on the east side of the house so they had complete sun until about noon then complete shade. I have given away over the years many, many, many starts, some people who listened and planted them in a sun protected location have raspberries growing out their ears too, others have none.

It is suppose to get cold again after this next three days of glorious weather. And I agree as much as I LOVE it, I believe it bodes for a hot dry summer again.

Then I take it you wouldn't want to hear about our next 3 days of days in the mid 70's and overnight lows in the 60's, so shhhhhhh noone say anything.

you know...I would enjoy a day above 32*! I dream of the 40s.... So sick of this white junk. Speaking of which, another half inch just accumulated on my car. BTW, 4x4 IS necessary sometimes! My little Aveo just couldn't survive up here.

I couldn't live that way, the way northerners have to in the winter, I would need heavy medication, as it is I think every winter I am for sure going to freeze to death before it ends.

It's not as awful as it seems. They actually get snow, not the ice that I'm used to. Driving on this? SOOOOO much easier.

And the roads! Dude! They are up ALL night clearing the roads. Before the storm? They put down a brine all over every road surface. It is amazing! Makes your car NASTY though. They don't have all the pot holes either...I think I've figured it out. They have a really heavy rubber band across the bottom of the plow that keeps the road from getting all sorts of torn up.

And instead of just using dump trucks? They have specialized plow trucks. And the plows move up and down and to the side and they can angle the plow!!! Amazingly cool.

My family are all from the northeast, and I have lived there during some parts of my life, though never as an adult (Maine, NY, CT, RI mostly) it is waaaaaay to cold and white and dead waaaaaaaay to long for my survival.

Kass when you said you were moving the berries I had wondered if they had ever produced. DH loves raspberries but OSU says they are not recomended for our area. May have to check into the ones stark has.
Baby chicks have fresh food, water & clean brooder. The way they were screaming you would think we were doing evil things to them. But when returned to the brooder instantly they were flapping their wings & so happy to have a full feeder.

I had tried them for years before getting those established. It can work chose your location well, and I highly recommend the Starks ones, they have a garauntee too. My gma put hers in a walk way between the house and garage lots of shade, and hers were crazy invasive and huge.
