***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Poco I totally agree the original POOPS creators should be consulted. That is why I said I didn't want to step on any toes. Also thankful people want to continue the annual get together & are willing to pitch in & help!

Cathy I think after work you should just get in the car & drive to a nice hotel. Come home after your husband has fixed everything.
LOL well I am taking tomorrow off since Matthew has a game in Tulsa so we will be going shopping for a new washer, dryer and hot water heater. Not the way I wanted to spend my little bit of savings. But really gratefull we have it to spend on these.

Here's my new buff orpington rooster! Will be 1 year old in April, He is huge & needs a good name, any ideas? Do any of you name your coops? I never heard of naming a coop but I want to name mine.

Hey does anyone have a Buff Orpington Rooster? I lost my other rooster and am looking for another one. Preferably around the Atoka Area. Also Does anyone know about a chicken auction in or around atoka. Thank you.

Rhinomeadows :
Nice to meet you neighbor. We are from the Durant/Madill area. The only chiken sale that I can think of is at Teel's barn on Hwy 70 across from JC Potters sausage in durant, sales are on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, outside sale starts at 6pm, then the chickens, other birds and who knows what else starts in the sale barn after they sell everything outside. From past experience, go early, so you can get your birds in and find a parking spot. They are usually piled up with people.

If this gathering uses the name P.O.O.P.S., permission must be obtained form the original P.O.O.P.S. organization/planners/group. Monty, Al, Sooner, et. al. Those folks need to be contacted anyway, because there may be a plan already in the works.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I couldn't get the multi-quote function to work yesterday. Looks like I've conquered the operator-error problem today.

I would love to help if people want to arrange a chicken swap and pot luck. The building I rented at the fairgrounds in Muskogee last year may be cost prohibitive for a smaller event. The expenses for that location are as follows: $100.00 for the facility for 8 hours. $20.00 per hour for security (two officers required), so the total is $320.00 for security. $420.00 would be the amount to consider if the show barn in Muskogee is requested.

If 40 families committed to attend, the cost would be $10.50 per family. The bonus is that we'd have bathrooms available, water, electricity, a big facility, lots of parking, and armed security. If we set the amount at $10.50 but exceeded that number, then maybe the first 40 people to pay could split the overage. That would be the incentive to sign up and pay early.

People may want to invite friends who aren't regulars on BYC, which would require an agreement, early, from planners: We'd have to know if these folks are welcome, providing they pay the per family fee to attend. This makes the event larger, but the first forty attendees may end up attending for a greatly reduced cost.

If people want to use the show barn in Muskogee, I volunteer to rent the facility and hire the security personell. I'll need lots of help to get the word out so that we can cover the $420.00 before event day. I know it's a long way to travel for for many folks. There are many, many hotels in Muskogee that could be used by attendees if they can't drive up and back in the same day.
hey poco i would love to help plan another NEOCS i will even help cover the cost of the barn i can also cover the sound and auction equipment and mabee this year we can even have a show

Horatio or Hector; they both go well with "Huge".
My Buff Cochin male is really huge and is a big, ol' sweety too.

This is Wiley and his girl, Peaches. She is a big bird but is little more than half his size.

Sick again today. I'm guessing I'm allergic to the cedar trees that are supposedly blooming everywhere. Ugh. Got a little rain this evening but mainly just had a grey kind of cool day. Plants are all growing pretty well now. Almost everything has true leaves - tomatoes, squash, artichokes, parsley, melons, cukes - except the peppers which after two weeks are just now finally coming up. They've been stubborn for sure this year. Still researching for that perfect way to rid my yard of the dreaded squash bugs so that I will get winter squash and zucchini at some point. Of course I could use them as an excuse to finally get some guineas this spring. Do they really only eat the bugs and not the plants?

Our new coop is coming along slowly. We are starting on laying cordwood walls. This could take awhile. Baby turkeys are growing like weeds. I'm having to resist every urge in me to take them outside in the sunshine and let them experience grass and dirt and flying higher than the top of the brooder box. They are finally starting to understand gravity at least. I've been dropping in sprouts for them every day onto a red lid and they've been standing directly under where I'm dropping the food staring up even after all the food is dropped. Finally today they quit staring at me dropping the stuff and started watching the food fall instead.

I'm listening with intent to the talk of a gathering. I'd be willing to help do something but I don't live very close to anyone so it would have to be something on the day of the meet or on the computer before hand.

Erin guineas will still eat your plants if they think they taste good. My guineas love brocoli & asparagus trimmings when I offer them. They seem to prefer more bitter things. They don't like strawberries & we all know a chicken will devour a strawberry. During the summer I never had an issue with guineas eating things in the garden that they shouldn't.
