Hey everybody,
Well we went to the Newcastle auction last nite an I believe my dh bought 2 silkie roosters.
th.gif

Every pic I've seen that looks like what we have are roos. They are very docile. I'll post pics so you guys can let me know if they are or not. If they are, would anyone be interested in them? I don't believe they are show but they are very docile like I said. I'm really hoping that I'm wrong on this but I just "have a bad feeling about this". Especially when I told dh that I don't want to deal with roos.

Well, dh definitely picked not 1 but 2 roos. 7:43am both started crowing. So does anyone want them? we will meet you have way if need be but I can't deal with crowing. They are not show but they are docile. 1 is white and 1 is black an white. So if you just want some roos please please please send message because I would like them gone asap. Sorry the pics are not the greatest so if you want another one just let me know an I will try to get better ones.

they are cute little guys- yes roos, but, here are my thoughts with silkie roos, i have a pair of eyesight challenged roos in their own pen, they get along fine together- so depending on your situation, it is doable- silkie roos aren't that hard to rehome if you have to

here is a comparison of a pullet and roo of mine, a different stance- the roo on the right- so even if you are unsure, say the roo has had his head feathers clipped, sometimes you can tell how they stand

Well, we know for sure they are roos w both of them crowing as the sun rose. Yeah they need to be rehomed. I am too new w chickens and for right now I am not willing to take on roos. I also have 10 3day old chicks that we are also taking care of. Hubby was thinking that he could get the silkies an intro them to the chicks an help w the brooding. So back to the drawing board for us. Hopefully someone will want both of them cus they seem to want to be together all the time, I believe they were probably raised together.

silky roos have been known to care for babies, but these are new to you and any bird coming in from outside needs to be quarantined- he has a sweet heart though to get them- he had good intentions- since you are in blanchard, shouldn't be hard to find a home, i believe you could contact some of the folks that go to auctions there and sell them that way- i am such a softee, glad i am far enough away not to 'rescue' them

Yes dh is a sweety to get them. I just wish we were already used t chickens an had silkie hens then I wouldn't be so overwhelmed by having roos. I'm hoping someone will want them, I'm even willing to meet half way in order to get them a good home. Hopefully by July we will be ready to have silkie hens.

Where are you located, I may be interested in your silkies.

I wondered if that was you at the auction. We were behind you. Personally I would recommend keeping Thekla's if your going to get hens you'll want to breed soon. Remember chickens are highly addictive. I didn't even want chickens to start with and thought my dh was crazy.

Also, betsyok was on the other day and she raisessilkies I would send her a pm about getting a hen. You can take those two roos to Blanchard next sat.

Hearts 4, LOL! Not AT you, but with you. I'd already answered your PM before reading this.

Carl, I need a bit of help. I've been asked to give a presentation at a conference in mid-March on preparing my chickens for shows. Since mine are silkies and most of the other conferees are either guinea fowl owners or have other types of chickens, I need a little information on preparing OTHER poultry for shows. I can give a pretty good presentation on silkies, but I think it is a LOT more involved than for other types of poultry. Would you (and/or anyone else who shows poultry) let me know step by step how you do it, including products you use? You could either do it by on this forum or by PM. It may be others here want to know also. I would appreciate it greatly.
