I move all the broodies to their own coops or cages once they become serious about setting. Solves a lot of the dramma. However, most hens will protect their babies from everything.
So glad to see the thread perk up with POOPS excitement!
Tomorrow we are going to move plants around to protect them from the frost. Also watching another doe that I expect to kid soon. She was grunting & looking pretty uncomfortable this afternoon.
For other goat people - there is a meat goat boot camp next month in Seminole. Think the girls & I are going to go.

LonnyandRinda you posting pictures of your chicks isn't fair. There are so many pretty chickens & only so few pens! I have been trying so hard not to ask you for legbars, and the pictures make it even harder.

Yes! They are really pretty and I didn't know they lay blue eggs. I see what all the fuss is about!

Beautiful pics everyone and welcome any new comers!
Good Morning everyone,
I have a question/concern. I have a lil 5wk old gold laced Cochin. She is growing good like her other 5 flock mates but there's one thing that has me a little concerned. If put the 5 wk olds out twice w the 8 wk olds, no fighting which I'm very happy able but, Angel my lil Cochin won't eat much grass. I've hand fed her 2 pieces of grass on Saturday an she ate that but when she's in the run she will only eat dead grass or just walk around an preen on herself. We've given treats like honey dew melon, while the others go insane with it she just stands back and watches. When we've given blueberries she has grabbed one but if anyone comes around to take it she doesn't fight it she just let's them take it. She's apparently a lover not a fighter? I'm not worried bout her eating feed but I want her eating grass but she just grabs green grass an let's it go like she's not interested. Dh says she has a show bird mentality, that or she's special needs. Have any of you dealt with this sort of thing, or had a special needs bird? Culling is out of the question, she's become my baby. I have stopped holding her since I was thinking that maybe me holding her longer then I should was holding her back from eating the grass or other things. I'm at a lost as what to do, please help. Thank you guys-gals!

Oh you guys all got me hooked on chickens, no way am I keeping the addiction to myself now! I had ZERO chickens at this time last year. Can you believe that???? Now I have breeding pens for 4 breeds, I'm super involved in getting Cream Legbars into the APA, and dare I even give my chicken count??? I'll only count the adults... 38. Two grower pens and two 60+ brooders, a GQF and a styrofoam incubator. I'm in trouble now! ;)

Cream Legbars are fantastic. Friendly and great layers, large blue eggs, AUTOSEXING CHICKS! Cute little crests, too. Love them! I was planning on bringing my Cream Legbars to poops, but I may be sold out of chicks then, we will see. They fly out the door as fast as I can hatch them. I am breeding towards the UK standard for the breed, as that is what we are working to get approved in the US.

Here's a few more silly pics I took at easter:

Three White Leghorn X Cream Legbar and one recessive white Cream Legbar female (third from left- you can see how her head fluff poofs up- she should have a nice crest!)

Leghorn X Cream Legbar, black Ameraucana, blue Ameraucana

Female Cream Legbar in the back, male Cream Legbar driving the tractor.

My littlest one, Lydia.

Second youngest, Jonathan.
