35°F here at the house this morning, brrrr!

I hope y`all have a great weekend!

We used to have a few rabbits when we lived in the City...two flop ears, a Dutch, a Silver and an miniature Angora. The Angora was brushed twice a week to keep her fur tidy. the Dutch and Silver both had kits in nest boxes...so cute. We had a 1/2 acre panel fenced back yard and the rabbits could roam the yard during the day but went back to their cages at night. When the neighbors dachsund broke thru the fence and mutilated a flop ear, we found homes for the others and the Angora became a house rabbit. Angie was litter box trained. Such a sweet bunnie...our girls adored her.

My dogs like rabbits too much. I often find them on the porch in the AM.

Thought we were putting a few transplants in the garden this weeekend, but I am holding off until the weather forcast isn't touch & go. Last yr I had stuff in the ground last wk of March & we never had a frost. Why do they suggest keeping good records? History never seems to repeat itself in gardening.

Nana how many calves do you have so far? Love watching them play in the pasture when they are young.

Babies are New Zealand with a little California thrown in. They make great meat rabbits. The last litter dressed out about 3 1/2 lbs on average at 12 weeks.
I'm still working on my rabbit hutches. I had hoped to be ready by this spring, but that isn't going to happen so maybe by fall.

Thanks for the comment on my silkie, everyone. I got her from the Broken and Bleating Ranch; the people there were very nice.

Mrs. Sarah had several variants of partridge silkies and when I asked if any were available, she said she wasn't selling any of the partridge chicks at the moment, but when I came by the next day to collect my splash and few others of my choice, low and behold, there were partridge saved specifically for me!

She had decided to let me take a few since I seemed to really want them.

Unfortunately, the black partridge died due to one of my family member's mistakes. I still have my dear sweet splash and blue partridge.

We got them at Atwoods, not sure what breed they are? The one in the first 2 pics is what 5 of our 6 chickens tail feathers look like. https://www.backyardchickens.com/content/type/61/id/5657151/width/200/height/400[/MG]

These last 2 pics are of the suspected male. His? tail feathers are longer than the rest of our chickens.

. Very tempted to go outside & figure out which rooster has been crowing nonstop this AM. He may be on the short list.
Yesterday I set some Birchen maran & call duck eggs, they were shipped eggs so figured crossed. Still haven't found a single egg from the Mandrain ducks this season! However, on a good note, all our roof trusses were delivered yesterday. Think the framing is on track to start Monday or Tuesday, hope the nice weather stays so our house can be dried in quickly.
I Have two that have beingdoimg the same things all day.
At least I kmow which breed is crowing.

Right now we have 35 ranging from newborn to the first born on Feb 27....and many more between now and July. Then calving for fall begins in September.
We had one born this morning and two are in early labor now.
I get the biggest laugh when the calves discover their legs and go racing across the pasture with tails in the air like flags and the worried mom as run after them to keep watch. And then when the calves play King of the Mountain on any little rise of dirt or hay. Then the sweetest is watching a cow babysitting 5 - 10 calves while their moms are out grazing. Her replacement will actually touch noses with the cow on duty to let her know it is her turn to go graze.

Bought 8 sheets of plywood to make more coops. Babysitting the little grandsons Saturday night so will work around the weekend plans....sure need to move about 35 of the oldest juveniles outside. And I want to make a tractor pen for each of the Rosecomb breeder roosters and their hens so they have lots of fresh air and sunshine.

We've taken the plunge already and put things out, then wrapped them in plastic, then cover at night with blankets and add hot water bottles (2 liter coke and gallon milk containers) to keep the temp up. So far we still have tomatoes, winter squash and melons going even though the weather has been kerrapp. We had stuff in the ground last year by mid March and had tomatoes on the table by Memorial Day. I'm not holding my breath this year. Just hoping it finally stays warm enough to produce a tomato this year. Lol!
