***OKIES in the BYC III ***

400

Here are my 5-6 week old girls in their new coop.

Quote: well, from what i have read nystatin should work, also suggested is copper sulfate, but that can be toxic, it is helping him some, the nystatin, but he sure hates it
I use to use a q-tip and ACV on my kids when they got thrush, I would assume it would work on birds, swab the mouth and put some in the water.....

I Just finished this Redwood Chicken Tractor yesterday! I am just starting to make some events to display and show my products that I build and hopefully make some sales get feedback and best of all make some friends. Free quotes if you have a project in mind. Thanks Todd

You should come to POOPS -- lots of chicken lovers would enjoy seeing your coops & will share the word!!!

That is a good pic of a broody hen!!!

We are fighting off the chance of rain here. First was small rain drops, then nothing. Next large rain drops, then nothing! Poor animals can't decide if it is safe to come out & play. The guys are working on the trim to our house. Think it will be officially dried in today! DH will be home for 22 days of framing & running wire on the inside.
Alexis is making a few chicken related crafts for POOPS & Taron has made several different types of lotion bars, after we experimented with the recipe more. Can't wait for a full day of chicken fun!!! Only down side is the NPIP testing is being done on Tuesday, so will limit any chicken purchases we can make.

Going to be a nice weekend, time to get outside & plant in the garden (no promises of frost as of now).

Congrats to all with your hatches...so fun watching those babies pop out of their shell...never gets old.

Beautiful day here although it was a long one. Started by sorting cattle and tagging those cows who had lost their ear tags over the winter...necessary to match up with the right calf numbers before we take to the summer pastures. Then I switched around some of the breed pens and ivemeced all the birds in their pens for mites. Seems this is the time of year those beasties show up. Cleaned two wild bird nests out of the rafters in the barn. Sprayed down the layer room with spray while those birds were out free ranging. Monitored a heifer having her first calf. Then we took little Sunshine to the vet for an assessment on her foot. Her mom stepped on her foot again. Looks like she will end up losing part or all of it. That poor baby calf has had so much to deal with in her three weeks of life! Next we rode thru the pasture checking the herd and on the group in the back pasture. Prepped dinner and while the potatoes were baking was able to replenish feed and water and gather eggs. After dinner, baths and last round, I can finally sit for a while. Just before dark, I'll take the dogs out and shut up the juveniles in their coop.

It is supposed to rain tomorrow...so I will work on boxes for transporting the chickens to POOPs and the auction...I'm estimating there will be close to 30 Cochins and 30 Wyandottes and some layer replacements....I'm gonna need a lot of boxes......

Poor Sunshine! Still rooting for her though!!! Do you use cow ivomec for the birds? I had heard that you can use ivomectrin for the scaly leg mites and had wondered if it was the same as what we use for cattle. How many head do you have? We have just 35 or so, but they are scattered between several pastures - so it seems I am driving more than actually walking around the cattle. Still waiting for 4 calves that should've already been here or will any minute. They are all probably waiting for us to leave for the weekend before showing up!

We are running 75 momma cows and have 26 replacement heifers ready to breed to bring the herd back up to 100. We will have 76 calves this year.
Yes I use Ivomec on the chickens at the rate of 1/4 cc per bantam or juvenile LF chick and 1/2 cc per large fowl. Usually behind the head on the neckor under the wing.

Jcatblum..good to hear the house will be in the dry! You asked about shampoo bars....I have a good recipe.

MJ sorry to hear about your chicks...would some Cochin chicks make you feel better......mawawhahahahaha!

Wasn't me looking for Kikos...someone else was looking for a Kiko to cover their does...

It's been a little while since I've been on here, but we've been busy. Got the garden all planted; onions, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, corn, watermelon, cucumbers and strawberries. Our chickens are growing like weeds, only lost one. We acquired a gosling and 2 ducklings today - new to those too, so thank goodness for BYC. I'll have pictures posted soon.
