***OKIES in the BYC III ***

HAHAHA 977 unread posts since my last visit :p

Hope everyone is well! And I hope I can make it to POOPS! Fingers crossed that my husband doesn't get called out to work that morning!

It will be me + 5 :) Though one of those is more of a half :p

Ya'll make this the hardest thread to keep up with! Such great photos and so many new people. Imma just gonna jump right back in like I never left....if I start talking about the stuff you all have been posting I am going to write a tome instead of a post. Pretty chickens and gardening stuff just makes me GUSH.

I am coming to POOPS, and bringing my chicken friend, however I have to leave early so my daughter can go to a birthday party. I'm going to wear my POOPS shirt from last time.

True Chicken Confession:

I have for the first time in years not had any babies to raise this spring.
Not. One. I feel so dirty admitting that here.

I completely resisted every single chick at Atwoods and I have been there like 15 times already this spring.
Didn't even flinch at the ones that were giving me the eye.
I already told my husband that streak was verry likely to be broken at POOPS.

Not that I am planning on anyone coming home with me that he knows of....I'll just bring the pet carrier in case my friend ends up needing something for transport. Heh.

I have been looking over the list, and I already know that I am in deep deep like with many of the babies that are coming. I do not know exactly who but anyone with brabanters, cream legbars, polish, marans, americaunas and anything else cute or blue should be on the lookout. I have nothing blue in my flock and nothing with a barred pattern...and nothing that lays a colored egg. I feel that needs to be corrected.

I can't wait to see you all there!

Kelly
Oh dear, you are going to fall off the wagon at POOPS for sure.

Well I have gone and done something stupid and now I need advice. Short background, I have a buff orpington who hatched out 6 chicks about 3 weeks ago. Up until four days ago I was keeping them in the garage in a large brooder pen of sorts. Approx. 5' X 5' with a warming lamp on one side. Momma hen was with them during this time and all was good. Four days ago I moved them outside into a chicken tractor. It took two nights of me helping but then all of the chicks and momma figured out to sleep upstairs and all was good.......still.

Today I decided to move the tractor to the end of the house to block the north wind with the upcoming storm. While moving the tractor two of the chicks were injured. It's completely my fault and I feel like an idiot. They ran to the end of the tractor farthest from me and although I thought I was being careful they got their legs caught as I was pulling the tractor.

I can't detect any obviously broken bones but they are both hopping around on one leg. They move away from me when I come near but when resting they lay together. The other birds have stepped on them when I was trying to check on them but otherwise have left them alone.

My question is what do I do now/ Should I leave them with the group and move them upstairs at night and back down in the morning (taking into account the coming drop in temperature and bad weather here in central Oklahoma) or should I separate them and move them back to the garage by themselves? I guess another option would be to move all of them back inside but I hate to do that since the others are acclimating so well.

Help? Suggestions?? Besides being an idiot and feeling really guilty is there anything else I can do for them?

I would bring them ALL back inside as a family where you can watch them. If you take them away now, they probably won't be accepted when you go to put them back. As miserable as the weather is said to get, I wouldn't want to take a chance leaving the rest out anyway. Hopefully nice weather will follow.

I agree with Tony. Keep the family together or you will have two chicks who will not be accepted.
Hey for those who have noticed I have not been on the group here lately, I am still alive, I have had an issue with my dad and had to spend a week in TX with him in the hosp and have had my wife in the hosp twice in the last week, it has been the normal hectic around here, I wish someone would have told me the POOPS was being planned, would like to go!!! I know several are on my FB with me and several of you have my number, really wonder just how many others dont even know we are doing it!!! Can some one FB me or call me Or send me an email as to when and where it is taking place? Thanks, I would hate to miss it since I have been to all of them so far, also if you know someone that used to come, contact them and let them know, maybe they would like to go too!!! Thanks, Lynn

Hi Greybeard! Hope you can make it to POOPS. Sorry I did not get in touch with you about POOPS, things have been so stinking busy, lately.
Well thanks to my father I now have a white leghorn? rooster to bring to poops. He's a good lookin' fella but I don't need another rooster. I will also have some Cuckoo Marans chicks to bring.
Let me know if you want the roo added to the list.
Jack wanted me to pass on the info. That he will have Wheaten and Gold Salmon Marans chicks for sale at POOPS.
I saw them yesterday. They are nice, fat and fluffy chicks.

man, I would hate to live where I had to have a permit and a limit on chickens....
I would be in so much trouble if there was a limit to how many birds I could have.

Jcat,
Can you and the girls make a vinyl of this Cochin roo or does the design have to be a silhouette?
I really like that picture.
Kass - Love the new baby pictures!

Robin - Looking forward to POOPS : )

One of my broodies surprised me with her babies today. That means my two other broodie hens ought to see chicks tomorrow or Thursday.

This Cornish sat on a dozen eggs, and it looks like ten hatched. I'm going to have to check the nest tomorrow, to be sure, but today she wouldn't let me get close enough to get a good count. Look at all those red heads!

Ahhhhhh! They are so cute.
I would be in so much trouble. Can't just have Just One.
Like potato chips.
