***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have a few sick/injured birds. Anyone know what's going on or what to try?

This Black Copper Marans hen acts fine but has a big lump on her face between her beak and her eye. I've heard about "eye worms" is that what this is? What do I do about it?

This other one is an EE, I have her isolated and have Gallymicin in her water. I've been putting colloidal silver drops in her eyes 3x daily (that's what I do for my kids' eye infections so I thought it couldn't hurt). The swelling seems down today a little so I'm hoping she's on the mend. It was really bad when I first noticed it two days ago. Is there anything else I should do for her? I recently finished a round of Gallimycin through the whole flock so I don't think it's respiratory. She is very low on the pecking order and kind of a loner so I think it may be a pecking injury. When I isolated her two days ago she ate and drank like the other hens had been keeping her from eating and drinking.

My grandson Cooper. He's either bustin' a move a la Napoleon Dynamite or throwing out handful of feed! He's an excellent helper for a 2 year old!
p.s. I'm not making a gesture with my hand, it just looks that way.
Happy weekend everyone.

The hand gesture looks like "I LoveYou" in sign language...if the thumb is pointing out to the left.

Good call with the colloidal silver drops.

Birds don't have sinus like we do so their fluids have to go somewhere...usually the eye and like the bump between the beak and the eye. If the eye gets a cottage cheese looking build-up, you can gently push that out and give Tylan 50 shots for several days (1/2 cc for a largefowl). Try some Oxytetracycline (antibiotic) in their water. Atwoods has it as do most feed stores. You can also get a medicated hog pellet (same size as layer pellets) that has Oxytetracycline in it at SS Farm Center on Hardesty Road in Shawnee. Feed it for two weeks. Wild birds frequenting the feeders along side your birds will bring in more than mites.

Is Tetroxy-HCA brand the same stuff? It was suggested from the Emergency thread to do Tylan shots. I've never done the injectable medications for chickens; looks like it's time to try!

There is not cottage cheesy infection, the EE hen has some white watery infection I cleared out this afternoon but the rest of it seems like just swelling of the tissues, no white in there at all.
I will go down to Atwoods in the morning and get some Tylan. Does Atwoods carry the syringes as well or will I need to go to the pharmacy for those? What size of syringe?

I don't think they will. They are a little bigger than an old English game bantam egg.
