***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi all, My orpington just went broody again and I am looking for some hatching eggs to put under her. I want to get them locally but I am having a hard time finding any. I would like some more breeds that will go broody too. Does anyone have any eggs I can buy off you. I live in Hydro Oklahoma. About 50 miles west of OKC.

Good morning everyone! Hope y'all had a good weekend.
I was wondering if those of you who have bantams have your favorite breeds, and why? Anita (wife) and I got our first chickens in April and they are all bantams. 2 EE, a pair of Welsummers, and 4 Silkies. We aren't restricted with what we can have, but we do live in a neighborhood and don't want to bother the neighbors, so we decided with our limited space we'd stick with bantams. Problem is we're already wanting to get more.......and we haven't even seen an egg yet. LOL! I saw some Black tailed Jap Saturday night and they were pretty, but I really didn't want any. Anyway, we'd like to hear what all of you think and why, and where we might look for other breeds.

Have a great Monday.
Hi I have several bantams my favorite are the Cochins they are fluffy balls and the frizzles are so cute, my grandkids carry them around all over the place and they come running when the see any of the kids in the yard.

Ashleigh, Most breeders break up their breed pens at the end of June because of the heat. I run all my birds together for freeranging so any eggs would not be pure bred. Maybe some others who have separated breeds will pipe up soon.

Unkljim, I have Black, Blue and Splash Rosecomb Bantams that I got from CJarvis. He also has other breeds of Bantams. And Im loving my new Delaware Bantams I got from DGibson. Another breed I have is the Spangled OEGB. I really like them too. I also have d'Anvers. They are sometimes persnickety. The loudest are the d'Anvers. So far the only ones to go broody are the Black Rosecomb and the Spangled OEGB.

Chantilly just found out she is going to be an extra in the next version of "Birds" so she is practicing. lol lol lol

Busy, busy day today. I picked up my new mobile chicken coop. I'll put my broodies into it tomorrow. The ramp can be locked in a horizontal position to keep the little ones from running down to the grass before they're ready for that much adventure. The ramp is like a little drawbridge. The broodies are going to love the spacious nest boxes. My husband, a non-chicken person, told me he thinks it is a good-looking coop. Handsome, like a miniature barn.

One of the barn cats an a silky roo found a baby bull snake. After the cat decapitated the snake, she dragged it into the bushes, where the chickens gathered to have a meeting.

There was a long conversation, and each took a tentative bite or kick at the snake. Eventually the meeting broke up. When I checked an hour later, the snake was gone. I think the barn cats moved it to a secret hiding place so they could eat it later.

Awesome coop, he does a great job on them, everyone I've seen looks nice and secure.

I have a couple of broodies too I'm giving eggs to so I can practice more on the big "c"

Hi everyone!
Okieprime here and this is my first attempt to get to know some local people who love chickens. I have a Yukon address, but live in OKC city limits so I don't have a lot of chickens .
The two breeds I do have are very special to me. Australorps and Silver-spanded Hamburgs.. It's a simple way of knowing just who is laying.

Hi Larry,

Welcome! If you want to meet some great folks face-to-face, I'm putting a chicken gathering together for Labor Day (Monday, September 2nd). We'll have a pot luck meal, turn the kids loose with their squirt guns, and talk, sell, and swap poultry. I'll post more later today. I just wanted to let you know there's an opportunity to meet some of these amazing chicken-enthusiast okies in person.
