***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Our Labor Day Chicken Gathering will be held at the Four Seasons Handyman display site. The park-like setting is just south of Love’s Briar Patch. Right next to the Briar Patch. See (A), that’s the Briar Patch. Just south of that is an area with big open spaces and mature trees. You’ll see chicken coops and dog houses from the road. Parking for sellers will be inside the campus. Parking for buyers will be to the right of the gate, on the shoulder. Buyers can exit by driving north just a bit on the shoulder until they reach level ground.

Across from the Briar Patch is a flea market. Folks might want to check out the goods at the flea market after talking, selling, and swapping poultry. More information soon. The rain stopped, so I need to go finish feeding my flock : ) Click on the map to make it larger

ArtsyRobin:

Here are pictures of the three boys I caponized yesterday. They are spunky, have good appetites, and your blue cockerel flew away from the bench when I tried to take his picture. He flew to the top of a travel cage, probably hoping I'd forget he was out : ) The splash cochin was the calmest. He just sat on the bench, enjoying the fresh air.

Your NN cockerel didn't like the seat part of the bench. Maybe the slats are hard to stand on. He flew up to the top of the backrest and took a look around. A few of my free-rangers came by to say "Howdie," but he didn't pay any attention to them. He almost dozed off, as the bench swing was moving gently.

Last, and most active, your blue cockerel flew from the bench to the middle of the porch. From there he ran to the stacked travel cages and flew from the ground to the top of the highest cage. Of the three, he has the biggest appetite.

The other two will fast in a couple of days. I'm going to start earlier next time : ) These old bones don't do well after 5:00 p.m.

I've started a thread for the upcoming Labor Day Chicken Gathering. Subscribe to the new thread to stay informed and to provide input. Here's the link:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/810074/labor-day-chicken-gathering-tahlequah-ok

We'll have chickens, ducks, and other fowl. It just occurred to me that I didn't say what I was bringing or what I'm looking for. I'll go back and update the sale/swap thread in a minute.
We'll have a pot luck meal at noon. There will be a prize drawing for benefactors at 2:00 p.m. Kids and adults can participate in the water balloon toss. And we'll have some targets for measuring your accuracy with a water pistol or super soakers. Water in jugs will be available for the target shooting event. Bring some extra water in jugs if you know you want to soak your neighbor's kids : ) Bring water for your birds, too.

Here is a quick shot of a project Birchen Rosecomb cockerel. He was already mated back to good Black RC hens so those pullets will be bred back to his brothers who are a bit younger but have better combs and earlobes. Looks like I may be about ready to part with the blacks after this season as they are coming along well and blue / silver blue I should say is the next one I will tackle.
