***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi!! I am new to BYC and to chickens in general. I got my chicks 4 weeks ago and am loving every minute of it! Excited to find this thread and be able to garner advice/tips/suggestions from other Okies that know what they are doing! :)

In my short 4 weeks, I have already lost one chicken due to a snake encounter. It was horrifying to see but I took the lesson to heart real quickly and double secured every opening I could find. Ive been scouring the web and books for any information about raising chickens, but am always looking for more.

So....if you had one piece of advice for a newcomer what would it be?!

Nice to meet everyone!!

I keep getting told that you start with just a few but next thing you know, you have like 50 chickens! I can totally understand how it happens. I started with 4, lost 1, have to rehome one of my two roos, and added 3 more, and yet im still scouring craigslist for more! I realized that I desperately want a Serama....especially a silkie one! :)
