***OKIES in the BYC III ***

The Pope is actually a cardboard cutout. I'm amazed at how realistic the photo is.

Thank you. I think my DH is still as handsome as the day we met : )

Haha I didn't realize it was a cardboard cutout, either!

Looks like it's time to trim the beak of my girl with cross beak. She can't close her mouth and looking back on pics when I first got her she could. The clear tips of beak have gotten longer so as long as I just trim the colorless part of her beak close to where it's black I shouldn't have to worry about bleeding, right? Scissor action dog toenail clippers should work, right?

ShelbyDog left here with 4 pullets to add to her flock and her friend who is afraid of birds held a chicken for the first time in many years.
She is really a motivator!
We had a nice visit and I know the birds are going to a great home.

Thanks Nanakat. I enjoyed our visit. Thank you for showing us around and answering my friend's questions. On the way home we had a discussion about how the chick develops in the egg. She thought a chick was already formed when the egg is laid. And thank you for the beautiful girls with a variety of colors. I've been wanting a splash...and a blue...and a columbian (and what an awesome thing to get a blue Dottie). Dottie is a cutie, I spotted her easily. The Cochins are something else. Feathers deluxe. Seeing that white one bounding away was quite a sight. Like a goose down tumbleweed. LOL

I'll say it one more time....lemon blue wyandottes.

I should have taken a pic earlier today when there was more light in their pen but I'm stiff from that race yesterday and haven't gotten up to do much other than to feed.

Do you have blood stop powder on hand? You may see blood. There are pictures online that show debeaking and beak trimming. Some people cauterize when they trim beaks.

I don't have any stemic powder but it went well. She can't close her mouth completely but it's better than what it was. Hopefully she will be able to successfully eat corn off the cob now.

Going to see Willie Nelson with the parents on Nov 22. I didn't realize tickets were so cheap. I would have bought them a long time ago to get better seats.

This is where my DH would tell me, "You're such a tool." lol it hadn't occurred to me the Pope wouldn't be HERE :-D

Just heard on of my Buff orps crow but the problem is I thought he was a she & have been calling him Sally poor chicken

I have to trim my Serama's beak because he's inside and doesn't wear it down. Gives me the eebies every time I'm so scared I'm going to quick him. I used to use a little dremel tool but i use nail clippers now. Yes-stay in the colorless area and it shouldn't bleed. You can usually see the quick in there.

Spent all afternoon roofing a 10x10 area on the back deck. That's where I'm going to raise the chicks this winter, I still have to picket the 3 sides.
Here's some pics of my 2 new Gold Laced Cochin boys. They're still babies, just have little combs. They're certainly sweethearts though. I put them in the 10x10 roofed pen with the Dove pair and 2 Pigeons & moved the 3 chickens from there to another area. I'm hoping they'll get along and I'll add girls in a few months. I'm such a SUCKER for roosters.
Another picture of the Doves & Pigeons also. (Kinda partial to them, too).
