***OKIES in the BYC III ***

An update in the movement to keep chickens in OKC from a member of the Planning Department:

"Thursday, 10/24 – Planning Commission meeting, 1:30pm, City Hall, 3rd floor. PC’s public hearing on the ordinance will include staff’s presentation followed by Planning Commission discussion and comments from interested citizens. This would be your opportunity to vocalize your support and raise any additional concerns you might have with the proposed ordinance...At this meeting, Planning Commission will forward a recommendation to City Council – either to approve or reject the ordinance. (Administrative note: Planning Commission serves as a recommending body for changes to the zoning ordinance – city council has the final say.)"

Ksane, you'll have to let us know if the lavender guineas keep the peace. My grandmother swore by them to keep the fleas and ticks down, but the noise is just too much for me.
That's why I swore off Guineas a year ago. We had a single male Guinea that lived to be 13, lost him last year. But when I tried to get company for him by buying 5 young Guineas it was a trainwreck. The girl's noise drove me out of my mind. I don't mind the noise the boys make. I finally got them all given away. This group of babies is real super quiet and calm. I don't know if different colors have different temperaments? Or what? So I'm hoping for the best. I may even put up with the noise just to have such good watch-birds around again.

Pictures! 3 of the Silkies are hatched and another is working his way out. There's still 7 more Silkies eggs in there. 3 of my own eggs have hatched, I've got 5 Brown Red Cochin/Orloff mix eggs of mine that I'm praying I'll get at least *1* baby out of and another 3/4 Ameraucana egg in there. I have missed hatching SOOOOOO bad!! I weighed them. The 3/4 Ameraucana was biggest at 1.9 ounces. The Blue Silkie is .9 ounces. I always wondered what baby chicks weighed.
My 4 1/2 mo old Chihuahua pup is not amused.

Little grandsons were here today and tossed scratch to all the chickens, gathered eggs, checked out the broodies and held baby chicks. The youngest said "So, I kind of got this figured out. The girls lay eggs to make the babies and the roosters lay eggs for people to eat."
I kind of think I got him straightened out... Lol

hi guys- chatty bunch! whew, lots of reading and beautiful birds- i nominate KSANE for the favorolle mix roo!!!

after this guy scaring the ducks out of the duck run into the chicken run last night, cleaning out the duck run of food, and reminding the dogs they don't want to mess with him, the ducks are now in the chicken run at nite, the duck run has been getting a make over- he is a beautiful animal, but just not in my duck run..... i must say, though, after the remake of the run, the bantams will enjoy more room, since they are locked up at night if this guy breaks into the run, it won't be a big issue...but he will have to have wire cutters to do it

have 6 silkie eggs in the little brinsea- there WERE 7, but ksane isn't the only one that gets fumble fingers- sigh....

Ksane, if no one else steps up and wants him he is yours. I'd keep him but it just isn't working out and my main roo is really good at watching out for the girls.

Thanks to everyone for the information.

Robin, you can keep that furry black and white critter right there in Muskogee!
I've had 4 Silkies and 3 chicks from my eggs hatch and no one else has even pipped. I'm really wondering what's going on, all were fine at lockdown. I've never ever had a hatch this bad, even my 1st ever hatch with the Little Giant and shipped eggs gave me 8 Cochin babies out of 16 eggs. Maybe some will pop out overnight. These Silkies are adorable!!! 3 Blacks and a Blue. 2 have the vaulted heads, I hope it doesn't cause them any problems.
