***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Life is good. Hubby and I celebrated our 26th anniversary yesterday with a nice dinner. Oct 2008, we nearly lost Roger when he had all those trachea surgeries and we are so grateful for his returned health and strength. We now look forward to our future with eager anticipation.
Losing two high school classmates this week makes clear the brevity of life and cements how we need to hold those we love close and hug them longer.
Life is indeed good - regardless of how hard it can sometimes be...

Congratulations on your anniversary!

Hi everyone, I'm new to chickens, and love reading BYC, soo much information. I have a 11 yr old daughter that is brand new to 4H and is going to be showing chickens. She bought a trio of buff brahma bantams at the Newcastle show that she will be showing later this month, but she REALLY wants a trio of SQ white silkies too. If anyone here has a trio of nice SQ white silkies they will part with please let know. I'm hoping to be able to get them for her for Christmas.

Darling little crest. I love the crested SFH. I have a pullet that has a hat her crest is so poofy. Most of my birds aren't crested right now. Looking forward to hatching soon with @kyzmette.

It's such a content little thing for being alone, one more started to hatch this morning so luckily it will have a buddy soon. Really looking forward to seeing how they mature!

@TipihlowLadies you may want to check out the stickies under the Incubating and Hatching Eggs forum.

I've found the information REALLY useful.

The temps are going to differ, depending on if you have a circulating air or still air model, and where your thermometers are. I suggest using multiple thermometers after calibrating with ice water. Humidity is also variable, but they usually suggest somewhere around 45-55% until lockdown, where you want to increase it. The stickies will go through all the steps with you.

I saw those Buff Brahmas there if they were the ones outside in front. Beautiful birds that I'd have loved to have but they were marked 'sold'
I adore my Silkies. Your daughter will just love them. So easy-going, mind their own business, super easy to contain because they can't fly and very funny to watch.
Not sure where you're at but there's a lady in Edmond that sells trios of show quality Silkies, all different colors. I've talked to her before, she had birds at the Newcastle show. She has a sign up at the fed store, I can get her number if you'd like.

Can anyone tell me temp. and humidity to hatch successfully with a little giant no instructions came with gift has egg turner

There's a great thread about Little Giant hatching at:

I've got one but find it incredibly difficult to keep the temp anywhere close to stable unless it's in a room that has an exact constant temperature. My Brinseas are so much easier because I don't do anything once they're set.

Welcome! What county are you in? McClain county is having a 4h chicken show later this month. So far, my kids have shown barred rocks, but want to get into silkies as well. I have a bunch in the incubator, but If we get any trios out of them we will likely use them. However, we will welcome the competition! We have two silkies now - one of which my daughter just loves carrying around - they really are sweet birds. Good luck in your quest!
