***OKIES in the BYC III ***

For those of you who grow fodder: I'm thinking of using some planting trays filled with a good compost soil mix, covered with wire to start my grains. Will soak them overnight before planting. Then seed the trays and set them in the sun in the hot tub room. Will use wheat, oats, turnip seed mix. Any thoughts.

The silkies have their own pen inside the house and then get to roam the yard if its warm enough. But they are always in their pen at dark. I may have to bring her inside for parts of the winter.
currently i live in a chicken coop...LOL! spare bedroom has a trio of silkies, bathroom has a one legged game hen and her son, studio has seramas and a broody, kitchen has serama mama, a pair of silkies and a crossbeak chick, i ran out of time and funds to make places for them for the winter, it gets a bit noisy first thing in the morning- yes cages are stacked but they are warm and spoiled

We should all band together for our crazy chicken lady tendencies. I was telling Shelbydog last week that for the first time in a month I didn't have a single chicken inside the house. WHOOOT! That lasted about three days. Now I have one of those buff brahma bantam hens inside. I'm pretty sure her hip or upper thigh is broken. Could be the ball joint snapped off, but I really have no way of knowing without an xray. Her leg below the thigh is completely unresponsive, but she has circulation. When she tries to move, I can see some minimal motion in the hip which will flex the thigh forward and back a short distance, but nothing from the knee down, which tells me the muscles attached to the thigh from the hip area are working, but none of the flexors below the hip are functioning. Poor little girl.

Most people who grow to fodder stage don't use soil of any kind but they need to rinse multiple times a day. I have tried growing to fodder stage w/o much success, but when I get rabbits I will grow to fodder stage and planned on doing it like you said w/ some dirt covering the seed hoping to eliminate the constant watering need.

MC Southroads at 7:30? If so, that's where we'll be. I can't remember if we got IMAX or not, since a friend picked up the ticket for me. I can't say I'm overly thrilled with their assigned seating thing. I typically go see movies with a group of friends, and making us all buy tickets together just so we can sit together is way too much trouble. Looks like we'll be giving our money to the other IMAX when we go out as a large group.

Hello fellow Okies, new to this site, and learning so much. Cannot wait until this spring to get started with raising chickens. I raised chickens several years ago, but then moved into town, now that i am out of the city limits, ready to have fun raising some feathered friends. I have learned so much from this site, so glad it is here.
