I actually have heard they are great duel purpose birds and have a great flavor. I was considering a few to try as meat birds. I am not too sure of them as layers and in a winter like this I can't see a bare neck being a good thing! I take it you have some, how are they fairing in this cold?

I have some naked necks and they actually are pretty good layers, laying nice big eggs. No problems with the cold for mine! The only thing is, that during the molts, some of them look really really bad - but it is just a molt and how they do it.

I've decided to name this Swedish Flower chick Kramer.

That bird is just awesome! I think that Kramer is a bird my Husband would even like (plus he's a Seinfeld fan)

I have 2 naked necks. One with a large bowtie and one that's nude past her crop. My shelters are not insulated and so far so good. The one with the large bowtie is free to go outside if she wants and she spent several hours outside yesterday.

Bowtie? Do you have a pic? My coop is insulated and fairly draft free, but it is huge and the birds tend to separate at night smh! I guess that means they are warm enough. I even found my BOrp BROODING last night

Needless to say she was moved to a roost and I took the egg, silly girl! I told her she can raise all the babies she wants in the Spring!!!

Yes, I have NN, they do well in the cold and even more important in our area extremely well in the hot summer. They usually lay large brown eggs and are good layers. If you process your own birds they do not have hair like other birds to have to singe off. I say usually on the egg color b/c they are a breed people like to "play" with genetically and mix w/ others for neat colors or traits like top hats and egg color.

I am looking forward to "playing" with my birds too! I can't wait until I get my 'bator

I love having a big variety in my flock, but I'm trying not to go too crazy with it. I have decided to focus on my Brahmas and EE's. In a year or so I want to pay a FORTUNE (LOL) for breeder stock JG. That will have to wait until the girls are earning a bit more to pay for their new boy

! I also plan to get some Americana and Maran eggs from a BYCer after the first of the year.

My Husband is concerned that I am chicken obsessed!!!! As long as my obsession is bringing in some money he doesn't seem to mind TOO much LOL! Plus I "only" have 27,come on now that is hardly a flock right?
