***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Oh no!!! Not chicken math! In that respect, I put the "Dork" in "Dorking". If nothing else, I love their name. They are now officially on my list.

LOL the name is the first thing I liked about them. I have three so far, my Dorcus, and Lord and Lady Dingwald. They're a pretty mellow breed, and Dorcus is the sweetest, most darling chookie ever. Lord and Lady D were auction birds and Lord D has no problems with me picking him up.

Just a heads up, I keep hearing about how much they eat, but the more I've watched them, the more I've come to believe they don't eat tons, they're just the MESSIEST eaters EVER. I started putting their food in a deeper container so the roo couldn't sling it everywhere, and their food consumption went way down.

This supposed to be a blue wheaten olive egger

I agree with Kass. and Pollo - NNs. I actually don't have any of them unless you count my Showgirl. I have "fun" breeds but if I was to have a dual flock I would include NNs and Ameraucanas/EEs.

Gonna have to go with dual purpose for now but I would like to add ornamentals later.

Welcome to the family!

You might look into Wyandottes too. They are a great winter layer. They make great mothers, forage well and the meat has great texture and flavor. I have Columbian Wyandotte and three color variety projects going.

Fingers crossed for some splashes to hatch :)

Remember the episode. He should make a fine doctor. I've tried to follow Doctor Who since about 1970 although I must admit I've gotten sidetracked several times over the years. My wife is terribly disappointed with the change. She was just getting into the current doctor.

Matt Smith was okay, but I really liked David Tennant. I was really sad when he left, Matt isn't a big deal for me either way.

Are you getting ready to hatch? Might rotate the eggs until you do. Put in egg cartons and set a board under one end. Every 12 hours switch ends. Keeps the embryo from sticking to the shell wall. I use and auto egg turner.

LOL I meant for you to hatch splashes for me ;). Those eggs in pic are not fertile. I'm not putting my selected Roos with the girls for another month or 2.

Dusti, if you bring me Cheezmo Saturday, I'll set him up with a honey. Or do I need to bring Queenie to you so you can put her with your splash roo?

rofl! Great picture!
Do the packing peanuts (Production Reds) at your place have pronounced combs and wattles yet? The ones here do not. They're going to be one of my 1st caponizing attempts later on this year. I want to get in lots of practice on older birds.
The caponized production reds have tiny, tiny combs and wattles. They are starting to put on weight. They hang around with the cream legbar capons. I think the production reds will outweigh the legbars when they are mature. The packing peanuts are a talkative bunch. They follow me when I've got a feed bucket. They're quick to shoulder other birds aside if they think there might be corn or potatoes in the bucket.
