***OKIES in the BYC III ***

While I haven't set up the Wyandotte pens yet, I'm already hatching eggs from the Columbian Wyandotte cock over the older CW hens, his CW daughter and over his Black Birchen daughters, Blue Columbian daughters and two Blue hens. When the separate project pens are set up, hatching will be in full swing. Looking at about 300 to 400 chicks this season.

Besides getting more nice Columbian, I want some nice Blue Columbian and Black Birchen.
Hoping for some keeper Blue Birchen pullets to breed to the nice Blue Birchen cockerel from 2013.

As in last year's hatches...there were some splashy/party colored birds that are nice flock egg layers that won't go in the breeding pens because color doesn't meet the Standards.

The type is looking good for the birds reserved from 2013 for breeding so the 2014 goals are
I'm going to cull colors very judiciously as well as combs on cockerels and for yellow legs on both pullets and cockerels. There will be a lot of birds hatched from each pen and few will make the final selections for keeper breeders.

As for the Cochins, I haven't put the three pens together yet. Plan on my big Black cock (the President) over Blue hens. The Two Blue cocks (Big Blue and High Stepper) will go over Black pullets and over White hens. May try a later pen with the Black cock over the White hens. Want to hatch at least 50 from each pen and save a few for breeders.

Maybe it is the breed she is mixed with.. Humm!!!
maybe i have no idea what it is that she is mixed with but im sure she i at least 1/2 GP because she has one of those weird dew claws like they have she was a stray that adopted us.

Matt Smith was okay, but I really liked David Tennant. I was really sad when he left, Matt isn't a big deal for me either way.
I agree, David Tennant took on the part very well and we really enjoyed watching him evolve in the character. I've seen him in some other shows and he was very good. He seems like he may have some classical theater training. As for Matt Smith, it took quite awhile to find his character for the doctor and he's finally comfortable in his part. Oh well, on the bright side we'll get to see another transformation and a whole new character.

Remember the episode. He should make a fine doctor. I've tried to follow Doctor Who since about 1970 although I must admit I've gotten sidetracked several times over the years. My wife is terribly disappointed with the change. She was just getting into the current doctor.
You know every Doctor I am sad to see go and think I will not like the next one at all and so far in all these years I still hate to see one go and learn to love the new Doctor..

LOL the name is the first thing I liked about them. I have three so far, my Dorcus, and Lord and Lady Dingwald. They're a pretty mellow breed, and Dorcus is the sweetest, most darling chookie ever. Lord and Lady D were auction birds and Lord D has no problems with me picking him up.

Just a heads up, I keep hearing about how much they eat, but the more I've watched them, the more I've come to believe they don't eat tons, they're just the MESSIEST eaters EVER. I started putting their food in a deeper container so the roo couldn't sling it everywhere, and their food consumption went way down.
I designed and built a feeder that reduces the waste of messy eaters. Send me a pm and I will send you pics.

Fingers crossed for some splashes to hatch

That is one of the great inspired ideas and horrible ideas all at the same time, changing Doctors and companions like they do. I will miss Matt, just not like David.

It is funny how the sunset does that, sometimes I will be working in Tulsa or Muskogee (not far from Henryetta) and see an awesome sunset and call Gary to tell him to look, and here it will be a complete non event.

So the first day of the new year started out pretty good.. We worked out in the yard most of the day, cleaning up downed limbs and leaves and I found good homes for two kittens. Now we just have one kitten to go and two people are interested in him. Yeah!!!
I hope everyone's New Year has started out well..
By the way, who is going to the Newcastle auction Saturday??? We are planning on going, have some cochin pullets and cockerals I need to sell. When I bought them I was told they were LF cochins, needless to say they are not...

Hope to see you all there. I have been totally jonings for an auction. It has been a couple of months, or at least it feels like it..

whew just catching up! chatty for the new year!

i will seriously miss Matt... i think he has melted alot of the earlier drs in his version-

had a new showgirl chick hatch for the last baby of the year...

i am thinking the GP crossed with a retriever might be the best mix, sounds like she stays home more
