***OKIES in the BYC III ***

True5, I have Blue, Black and Splash Cochins and am setting up the breeding pens this week because the girls are laying again. The eggs I have hatched so far are half Cochin/half Wyandotte. This mix makes a great layer that doesn't go as broody as the full Cochin and they make great mothers. I have one order for Cochin eggs so far and will be hatching soon.
Im sure my expression is one like a kid in a candy store...

When you cross with the Wyandotte do they still have all the fluffiness? It will be awhile until I get any eggs. The temp in our house fluctuates too much and made me bite my nails and lose sleep with my last ones. Do you have any pics of the girls though? Are they just as cuddly? I found with the ones we got they are going to be super sweet. I can get more than an arms length to them without them running. I looked at different pics of Cochins last night and I'm dying to find calico and Colombian. I don't know genetics very well but what would you get if you crossed a SFH and Cochin?
So, enough with my mindless before-morning-coffee rambling...

Thought I would post a couple of photos of a Mobile Chicken Coop we recently built.

In November I offered to build coops for anyone that would provide the materials and together make Christmas great for anyone that had been good all year and we could make it a great Christmas them. We had one person take us up on that offer.

On December 24 Santa Delivered This Coop to a very nice person and also Delivered 1 other Coop to another kind person I call these random acts of kindness/sometimes not so random.

The Coop Features 2 nest boxes with exterior access for your eggs,an easy access ramp, roost bar, hinged roof for easy access to the inside of the coop, hinged roof on the lean to for easy access to your feeder and waterer,

I chose not to reveal names out of respect and privacy concerns for the persons involved with this Secret Santa Project. Thank You !

Yep, as per suggestions, we think the male goat is going to be BBQ at some point this spring. Our only issue with it is that he is a rare fawn color so I'm torn between selling him and cooking him. I do love a good BBQ goat. Plus my hubby wants him to mate our girl before he goes away and we have NO idea how to tell if she's pregnant or not.

So, I've taken up writing as a full time career now and my chickens and goats and turkeys are now the star distractions in my day. I figure I can fool myself by writing a post on here ... that way I'm "writing" while still indulging my poultry passion.

Now if I could only figure out a way to make it count towards my total production for the day ... Maybe I should start writing a column on poultry keeping since it seems to be a popular pastime these days. I could have quotes from all of you on various matters ... we could call it the Okies Poultry Ranch Roundup ... or something ... I'm just winging it. Hey, that might be a good name "I'm just Winging it".

this girl is from nana, i would think the cochin dotte cross would be gorgeous- this is shasta, she is a dotte and absolutely the sweetest personality

Look at that eye candy! I would never be seen or heard from again if I had them as I would be with them making them sick from all the cuddling. I'll get ahold of you sometime in Spring when I can get all set up and ready for more babies. I look forward to it!

Woohoo, just got my first egg from my double laced barnevelder pen! And it is a huge egg for a pullet egg! I didn't expect either pullet to start laying for at least another week or two, and they both look the same in the comb and wattles so the other pullet must not be far behind!
