***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Am thinking about using the Blue Columbian Wyandotte or the Blue Birchen ....she is out of one of the Iowa hens. So I want to put that hen with a Columbian pattern.

Right now I have High Stepper in a quarantine pen treating for sneezing. The other two Cochin cocks are in breed pens with lovely Blue, Black and Splash hens. Going to send eggs to Colorado and then hatch 50 from each pen. The Black hens decided to stop laying when I set up their pen but the other pen gave three eggs from six hens yesterday.

Oooooh....dibs...dibs....dibs....on one of her pullets :)

Sure hope we can get more that look like her....she is so unusual.

I love the pattern for the aprons. I will have to make some banty size. I found you on FB.. I think. It has a Cheryl True from California? If that is you I just sent you a friend request. I am Angela Childress

Yes that is me! I accepted you, thanks for looking me up! I took a brief look at your "likes" and we actually have quite a bit common interests. Makes it so much nicer when I find someone else who enjoys the same things. Conversations are more interesting.

I promise I'm not one of those stalkers though (I don't go searching all through your stuff and "like" all your past pictures from years ago lol). I'm pretty easy going and like to just see how everyone is on facebook and will post something occasionally.
Put a high voltage sign on it

Sonny update, i did his feet with neosporin twice yesterday and it shows-

Wow Robin! He/she is SO lucky to have you! Looks like you sprinkled magic healing powder in such a short amount of time for it to heal so well! This truly makes me so happy! Is she still walking tender footed? I saw how she was rubbing the feathers off her belly from hiking those feet so high. Neighbor thought it was lice. I thought so until I watched the sad ouch ouch ouch march.

Well Oklahoma, its going to be such beautiful weather this weekend! I believe I will be outdoors cleaning chicken poop... cant seem to get from coop to house without stepping on a land mine... ( ,,,,

) Not to mention I think I will work on a new quarantine pen so I can have it done by next month... another auction. This time I will be pulling chickens from the cages and looking over them much closer than this first time! Next time I need to calm down and not want every chicken that is there. Maybe have hubby hold my hand down so I can't bid! HAHA!

Cheryl, are you going to Coweta tonight?
I wish I was. Hubby isn't home tonight so I have to wait. I'm letting things settle down here with the flock before bringing anyone new home also. So no. Not this time. Next month it is ON! I will be there! I think my husband actually enjoyed the last auction because he isn't protesting, not even a little whine about going to another. Oh boy. I have to watch how many chickens I keep... I forget that I will have three babies joining the flock in a couple months!

Before I forget!!! I have three Splash Marans cockerels, almost 2 months old that are in need of a new home. I will sell them $5 each. They are in a big wire dog crate right now and with them getting larger so quick it's getting cramped in there!!! Let me know if any of you would like them all or even just one. These guys have NOT been out with any contact with my flock so they don't have any crud. They were the ones I hatched myself and since they are like my own kids I want to see them go to a good home. If you decide to raise them as a meat bird then it's best I not know about it!!! LIke I said, I hatched them so they are like my kids.

Yea, aprons are about the only thing that works unless you confine the boys elsewhere. Thr hens don't even notice the aprons once you put them on. Check them periodically to make sure the elastic straps arne't cutting into their skin but that's about it. Teenage roosters are roughest on girls. Once they get past about 18 months old they're a lot gentler. It drives me nuts to have my girls feathers messed up but I do love my roosters. At the 1st sign of broken feathers I slap an apron on. That said, most all my boys now are old enough that they're not rough on their girls.
I am looking into some patterns now, my poor girls look worse today.....

Found the page - Double Laced Barnvelders (sp?)
THANK-YOU! That was driving me crazy and they are beautiful!

My wheaten Marans started laying 2-3 weeks ago and she's been laying really odd eggs. They have a chalky-white tint and also a rough chalky feel to the shell. The first few were very soft also. I would think something is missing from her diet but I have 3 others laying perfectly normal eggs. I feed 16% layer pellets, a separate feeder of chick starter pellets (I have a few younger pullets in the coop) and quite a bit of fermented scratch, plus they have free range of the backyard a few hours a day. What could be going on? Will it fix itself the longer she lays? I have been wanting to sell her but not if she's laying funky eggs. Here is a pic of my black Marans egg on the bottom and the wheaten's on the top.

I have one that does this also. I don't know what it is either. Mine have oyster shell as well.

Cheryl, are you going to Coweta tonight?
This reminded me...did someone say that the Newcastle auction is off this weekend?

Here a pic of a mug rug I made this month. I couldn't post it until today since it was part of a swap that was suppose to be secret until your partner opened the mail.

Robin- that's a nice tractor. Having bantam coop envy over here.

Kathryn- love the blue laced lemon. More of her please! Will you breed her this year?

I mailed my order in for 10 BLRW from Mr Strawn. Pretty sure it's Foley stock. It's straight run so everyone cross their fingers I luck out with alot of pullets.

Speaking of straight run....saw ad on Facebook group for straight run cream legbar chicks....uh huh...how can you 'straight run' an auto sexing breed.

I've heard of this, the buyer or breeder puts their hand through a hole in a box of chicks and you get the first one grabbed. Hence it is chance/straight run even though they are sexable. I think it's a sneaky way to dump cockerels. :-\

Cheryl, are you going to Coweta tonight?

Crap is that tonight? I was going to try to make it this month now that I only live 5 minutes away!
