This is exactly how I did it word for word with the Silkies I've taped.I cut the whole bandaid in half the long way and put the padded part around the leg, (and feathers), and put the sticky parts together in the middle. Then, on the second leg I do the same -put those sticky parts over the first ones in the middle between the legs.
I think the hardest part is getting the distance between the legs just right.
When I get it right it works very well and the chick "heals" fast andf it walks fine in just a day or two.
I find it very had to hold the chick and do the "tapeing" at the same time so , if I can find a volunteer" I have somebody else hold the chick while I fuss with the bandaid strips.
is there any way you can get those you aren't sure on and listen to them, tap the shell and see if you hear anything?
My husband would kill it. I would drive it three or four miles... or more away and set it loose.I just got a possum out of the coop. What do I do with it?
I haven't faced this problem yet but here is some info.I just got a possum out of the coop. What do I do with it?
give the boy a drop of baby vitamins. Rarely do I have leg problems in my cream Legbars but I do in isbars and that almost always clears it up. Come on baby girls!First baby is finally out of the shell and drying out. I can see the light color dot on the head clear as day so, it's a boy! So if anyone wants a day old Cream Legbar chick he is up for who ever wants him! Right now I noticed his toes are curled. What in the world causes that? In the shell too long? Well, just waiting for him to dry so I can tape his toes up. Poor little guy. One other has piped but still not getting out. One is peeping. The last two I am afraid have not survived. No movement for the last few hours. I have a straw I can poke through the holes of the bator to tap on the shells and I don't get anything where use to I could get some movement. So hopefully at least 3 out of 5. Im going to be optimistic. Praying for at least one girl!!!!
So sorry! Congrats on the survivors though!I went ahead not long ago and QUICKLY grabbed them and tapped. I then candled. nothing. There is still no movement when I put them back. Its so sad because the one that moved the most is one of them. I really think it has to do with my temps. I don't trust my thermometer if these guys are late, these two die, one dies after it pips, then one has a lot of fluid. I went ahead and opened the one silkie egg that didn't hatch and the baby was dead and still quite a bit of fluid around it. It was fully developed. But I do have two happy Silkie babies and now a for sure little boy Cream Legbar that I need to find a home for. My next batch has 26 eggs and I am hoping my hatch rate is better with it.![]()
Gorgeous birds. Cochinskina grow on a person don't thye. I have no idea as to quality, but I know what is awesome to me and these are
Don't want to seem cruel, but kill it. Possums are the main carriers of EPM which has certainly hurt the horse industry. I had to put my daughters horse down after literally spending thousands on it years ago(when I had money and a job) It will come back and if not to yours someone elses. They bite the head off of the chicken abd suck the blood yuk. I love animals, but am a realist.I just got a possum out of the coop. What do I do with it?
sounds like in addition to temperature fluctuations that humidity may be too high. I dont mean humidity now i mean over the course of incubation. That's often the case with late quitters if you know parent nutrition is not the cause (which I know it's not in the case of the Legbars since they are my eggs).I went ahead not long ago and QUICKLY grabbed them and tapped.
