Shelbydog, I'm assuming you have a separate pen for the males. Pair your Faverolle cock with the mildest mannered Wyandotte cock. Let them buddy up for a week. Then add another male in with them.
On your Blue Birchen, is he being aggressive towards you? Carry a PVC stick with you and shoo him out of your way until he move away by choice. Or pick him up and carry him upside down by his feet for a few minutes. He has to associate you as more powerful than he is.
Remember me telling you about one of my Black Birchen that was simply gorgeous but had a stinker attitude? He made a lovely pot of dumplings when he refused to conform to my expectations.

Babies are hatching today and Momma are cooing encouragement to their pipped babies. Already have a Blue Rosecomb under a Delaware hen.
Wish my taxes were finished so I could be outside....better get back to them.

One of the chicks in my Bantam Faverolles hatch had those same signs. It wasn't the temp, I'm sure. He did die a few days later. It reminded me of preemie babies who have underdeveloped lungs. Maybe some chicks (through no fault of our own) have immature airsacs.

I have a feeling that it could have been the incubating temps that fluctuated that did whatever it was to the leg of the olive egger and now my sweet Cream Legbar. Bless her heart. She just pants but stays in the main part of the heat with the others. I have it about 95ish and if I go any lower they all start to clump together. Darned if I do and darned if I don't. I don't want her to die but I don't see a very good outcome.

I really wanted two girls and was going to buy a chick so I guess I will only wind up with one.

@TRUE5 did you give her any vitamins? that may help, or get some 'sav-a-chick its a powder you put in the water

I gave her a little and she aspirated on a little bit of the poly-vi-sol. She finally got that back up (scared me half to death) and went back to doing her labored breathing. I would like to get some sav-a-chick but I don't think she is drinking. She is running around and fluffing her fluff, pecking at the food. Just labored breathing with her beak open. I hate it. I put her beak in the water several times but she just shakes her head then runs off. I'll try again with the vitamins. I didn't get very much down her the first time. This just breaks my heart. I just love those babies.

Splash Marans are 10 weeks old tomorrow and are being kicked out to the bantam coop. The "hut" was originally for babies that were being brought outside out of the garage then later to join the larger birds but somehow my daughter claimed it for bantams. Wish we had our big coop built already. It's such a pretty day though so they got to spend most of the day outside in a make shift pen. I hope the bantams are getting use to them... they're fixing to be roomies.

I got these 2 brown African females for the Sebastopol gander Tim gave me.....turns out I don't need them....story to follow...

I have a funny story about these 3. The gander was added to the flock this morning. The rooster is Manchismo and he's the head rooster. He gave the gander a red 'trinket' today and ever since the gander has been in love with him. That guinea is Uno, he loves that rooster too. So Manchismo was having a standoff with the new faverolles rooster. Uno is standing to the side like a boxing ringmaster and the gander standing behind Manchismo hissing. So the gander goes between the roosters, grabs the faverolles rooster's chest and pushes him away. Then the gander turns toward Manchismo bobbing his head, Manchismo crows, and then they all walk away.

Uno is Manchismo's right hand man and the gander (Curly) is his heavy weight body guard.

All the babies for the capon clinic and the rest are now in a big brooder by the barn. They hugged the corners for about an hour, but after that the boys started flight training.

Kyzmette - I can bring Minorcas Friday.

Shelbydog - I can bring Wellies, Redheads, and a little duck Friday.

- I have no human aggression issues with the 2 marans Roos.

My 8 marans youngsters are outside. They were November hatches. Was intending on keeping them in tractor for rest of month but that plan has blown over as a couple made a break for it when I opened the door to feed them and a couple of hens snuck in so since it looked like everybody was getting along figured they could mingle with big girls today.

My Blue Copper Marans boy is very sweet. He was just a brooder pal for my Cochin chicks last Summer so I wasn't going to keep him but he is as beautiful as he is sweet so now he has his own pen and I am collecting girls for him. His oldest girl, a Splash, is laying a lot so hope to have some babies soon.
I am still a COCHIN breeder but Marans are awefully nice.

I do have pens I can put the roos in. The dottes are back in rooster jail. I'm going to see if I can get the marans to accept the faverolles and if they do I'll let the birchen back out but leave the Colombians in since I've caught them breeding hens. I need to put them in the freezer the next nice weekend.

On the birchen, he hasn't made contact yet but can hear him trying to charge me from behind. I've been making him go away from me if I catch him walking my direction. I ordered a poultry catching stick from premeier so that will be a great 'get away from me" tool and then I can use it to catch him for his humiliation punishment.
