My Cream Legbar girl is a trooper and is holding on but still not good. Still breathing hard but still pecks at food and walks around once in awhile. She is closing her eyes and sleeping more now. All of a sudden her brother started to show the same symptoms. He is now lethargic and only stands if I pick him up and put him back down. He wont open his eyes at all. I may lose him before morning.

The other gray boy is still acting like he's fine and nothing is wrong. I'm going to keep a close eye on him. I just don't understand what happened. I keep the temp at 90 for fear that it could have been the heat. I gave them both electrolyte water by syringe and they took it ok. Just breaks my heart to see them actively passing away and there is nothing I can do. I can only think that maybe this happened during incubation or even possibly during lock down.

Poor sweet babies.

Take a step back, breath... stop beating yourself up. The others are doing okay, right? Why would you assume this has to be something you did wrong? I had to learn this the hard way too... if you have a hundred eggs, ten each from ten different sources, don't assume it's your fault when all ten from the same source die if the others are okay. I first started hatching with eggs from a reputable breeder, but I couldn't get any of them to survive. It was crushing. We get so emotionally invested in those early hatches. Then I started hatching out my own eggs and they do just fine, so I know it wasn't me. There are a ton of factors involved that could be causing this.

I have chicks that incubated during the worst of winter through two power outages and wild temperature fluctuations, and they're doing just fine. A few of them didn't make it, but egg temps hit the 70's for a couple of hours, so I doubt your little temp variances are the problem.

Braggs Organic Raw - Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar. However; it eats away at galvanized waterers.
An alternative, what I use in my galvanized waterers is Brer Rabbit Blackstrap Molasses 2 tbsp per gallon of water, for one day, and not more than 3 days. Then change back to fresh water.
Home remedy for vent gleek. Wear latex or similar protective gloves; stand the hen in warm dish water (considering chickens have a higher temp reading than humans, so the water should be quite warm) up to her abdomen, and wash the caked up area gently removing all excretions. Rinse all the soapy water from the hen with fresh warm water. Using a hand held hair dryer, blow dry the hen. Repeat this process every few days if needed. In the meantime make sure she gets the treated drinking water.

Depending on the breed...if he can cover a hen, he can start breeding. bantams about 6 months, large fowl at 6 To 8 months. And he can still fertilize eggs for a lifetime although the fertility % goes down.

Disinfect the wound and wait. I had a hen survive a dog attack. I cleaned the wounds, stitched the largest gashes, and applied antibiotic ointment. That was before I knew about Vetericin. Now I would disinfect, stitch, and spray with Vetericin. You might be able to skip the stitches, but disinfect and protect, and then wait. She may be strong enough to survive her injury.

I just read what Poco told u and that is pretty much it. If u have any dental floss u can add a few stitches. Just make sure she is getting etra vitamins and antibiotics. I use the vetricyn and a product called nu stock. Together they are a miracle worker. My goat was attacked by a dog and I rally thought thatthere was no way to save him. Well, hubby is more stubborn than I am and said we would, and I'm the x vet tech. He's fine now and even walks like nothing happened. I've seen way worse than your hen has, Number one rule keep it clean and water and antibiotics, I'd probably give her some acv too. sorry, about typing and spelling. I don't have my glasses on and had just looked to see if I had any responses to my ad aabout looking for female geese and saw this on my e mail.
