***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Only Cochins I have checking out nest boxes right now are roos!
I don't know which is worse - girls with no interest in laying or girls that insist on being broody.
I can sympathies with you on both the broody bunch, and the loafing brood. I've only one lil pullet that's laying, and she'll pro'lly go broody any day now. Luckily I had some fertile eggs for the two brooders. We'll see how good these youngin's are at incubating. I'm counting the days.

@NanaKat
enough that now she is saying she has to get her back outside!LOL! i hope she has a better set up for them, non drafty

question for you all, been reading on wryneck, have a hen that is  dealing with that or an injury, has anyone one heard of using tumemric herb for wry? this poor girl is cockeyed, and trembling, tonight she has been unable to use her left side, am thinking neurological-

Was it the NyQuil and Bayer or something else?

Not familiar with turmeric for wry neck...always heard to use selenium.

Robyn, how is your friend's bird this evening?

Diana, it was nice talking chicken with you this afternoon.

Settled babies under the hens. The Wyandotte has 7 chicks and the two Bantam Delawares are sharing their 5 chicks. Now they are moving chicks back and forth instead of eggs...so comical to watch. By morning I bet those chicks will be more dizzy than a termite in a yo yo.

I think it was someone on here that told me about tumeric. DMSO works great on neurological symptoms and on wry neck. It takes the swelling out of the brain or wherever it is that is causing it. I think it was Kyzmette that gave me some good advice, but it could of been Ksane. I don't mean to be forgetful, I just am Anyway it really helps with the muscle spasms if there is no brain or spine damage

Thanks for your help. False alarm though, When I went to wash it's little bottom,it was plugged up and had made a long strip but it was the urea. I'm still worming though. I can't take the anxiety.

Wryneck shouldn't cause paralysis. I can think of two non-injury causes immediately, and neither of them are good. When you say trembling, how bad are the tremblors?

OK Cochin experts...I have two roo's in my pen with 4 girls. One of the roo's is a little over a year and one is around 11 months. At what age do they pass puberty and start taking on roo duties? I have not seen the behavior, and the eggs aren't fertile.
Well that depends on the rooster.. Sorry to say.. Of the 7 LF cochin roosters I have, only 3 have been caught doing their manly duties.. Not saying the others are not but I have not seen it..

Lost my sweet half a crow Serama boy today.... out of the blue- dark red comb, assuming heart condition- he was a sweet boy and a good Papa

his little lady has been calling for him, feel sorry for her

Sorry about your loss.

I ferment whole oats, whole wheat, and chopped corn. I recently stopped using barley due to cost.

I would probably keep feeding a manufactured feed if I was fermenting scratch. You could ferment flock raiser crumble with the scratch like Robin does. But you can cut out layer pellets if they have a calcium source.
You could always add DE to the feed. Adds calcium and helps worm the birds...

Good Evening everyone! Okay so this in not really chicken related but in a way it kind of is. I bought a new car today. It is a Fiat 500 sport and it is blue.. Now I have never owned a blue car or have been interested in owning one but this car looks like a blueberry on wheels, although in the shade it looks black.. Actually looking at the picture it is almost egg shaped..

I guess that is fitting for someone like myself to own an egg shaped car.. It has a hatchback and the back seats fold down so I can still fit chickens in there.. hehehe!

Quote: yeah- me too- she started out with head leaning to the left, at this point her head will be upside down part of the time, and she will peer upwards, she usually fights beig handled, so tonite when i put her down, she fluttered alot, couldn't get her left side working, so i wrapped her in a towel for her safety, after the aspirin she has settled down, am thinking this is not a good situation- although she is more alert after the aspirin

Neat looking car. My first car was a fiat. My dad sold them for awhile, so when he quit selling them we each received a fiat.
