***OKIES in the BYC III ***

just got back in from checking Galahad and the gang- they were carrying on- i go in all of them are at one side of of the coop, crammed together, even those with personality issues... can't see anything, but they kept looking at the pop door, closed and latched- so i ope it and find myself face to face with a possum... !

ok, slam it shut, lock it, tell them its ok, they give me a look like yeah...sure... go back out and apparently possums aren't on buddy's (dog) danger list, he's sound asleep about 3 feet from where it was...!

Robyn, I use the Ivomectin pour on at a rate of 1/2 cc for Large Fowl and 1/4 cc for Bantam right at the base of the neck between the shoulders. I get down to the skin with a syringe without a needle. For hatching eggs, it is not a problem. Some people like to wait on eating eggs for a minimum of a week. In my opinion, the amount of Ivomec that may be in the eggs is minimal based on the research.

Congratulations to Kirby! He got another male coyote on our farm this morning. This is the third he has bagged since he started hunting here! We are thrilled to see these predators bite the dust!

On the advice of a great cocker, I've been doctoring the sniffles in the flock here with 250mg of Amoxycillin for two days. Great recovery. Even have a three week old chick I'm treating with a tiny dose for three days and it is recovering. The vet can sell you the doses. I paid $12 for 20 caplets. Also had some 400mg pills left over from treating the dogs...used a pill splitter to approximate the dose. Thank you Richard!

Watching a cow clean her newborn calf...she dropped it at 9:15 am where we can see her from the house. With the two yesterday, we now have 16 newborns in the past two weeks....and many more to come. Love to see them run with their tails in the air as they discover their legs. A sign that Spring is coming. I am going to set out my onions today as well as broccoli, cabbage, collards and lettuce plants. I have straw to cover them in case the weather turns again. And Im going to set up my little Atwoods greenhouse to move out seed trays during the day.

Hope everyone enjoys their day...

Glad the Amoxycillin is doing the trick for you. It has pulled some through for me that otherwise would have gone the way of the buffalo. Did that pic of the pen setup come through ? Richard

[Yes, Richard. The photo is great. Seeing the full pen in the background is good too. Thank you. We sure do learn about ideas that we can use in our own facilities when we visit with each other about what works for our birds.

the other day i was walking back from the coup and when i came to the front of my car port there was a possum sitting there i was so shock to see it cause it was not there on my way to the coup that i screamed.

my dog came running up and grabbed it by the scruff and ran off down the drive way in to the darkness didn't see the possum any where so i guess he took care of the problem lol.

Robin, the vent thing only works with chickens after they start to lay, right? It makes total sense, and seems so easy I can't believe I didn't think of it. Derp. So if Stipple is laying, it should be obvious.

And if Stipple isn't laying... somebody's sneaking in my coop to put blue eggs in my nestboxes!!! :D

@Kyzmette would you like some raspberry plants to go w/ your iris?

Anyone else that would like some raspberry??? Just need to figure out where / when to meet up.

Hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather we are having this week...

Propane is down to $2.86 from $4 when they came to top off the tank.

We are going to plant more carrots today and prep a bed for turnips, spinach and snow peas.
Planted cauliflower, broccoli, Swiss chard, collards, Romaine lettuce, 3 types of cabbage and 8 bundles of assorted onions yesterday as well as seeded beets, snowpeas, leaf lettuce and radish.

My chickens are doing the spring grass dance today eatting what grass we have as it sprouts!
Sure hope we don't get any more freezing temperatures :fl. ...but we all know Oklahoma weather is always changing....

We are keeping an eye on two cows pacing the pasture...most likely will calve this afternoon...both have sap hanging...or as my niece says...egg whites. :lau

Would love love love some! I have blackberries growing wild, and last year I planted two raspberries from Home Depot, but I would love to have them seeded everywhere. Are you going to the caponizing clinic at Coral's?

I'm planting my snow peas today too, I have them soaking in LAB and milk overnight so they are ready to go today.

Hoping to get the other things you mentioned planted today too.
